Publisher's Summary

Mars destroyed his ship - but gave him a new one.

Mars drafted his Mage - for the good of humanity!

He should have known that wouldn’t be the end of it….

Captain David Rice has a new ship, a new crew, and a new set of Jump Mages to carry him between the stars. All he wants is to haul cargo, make money and keep his head down.

His past, however, is not so willing to let him go. An old enemy is reaching out from beyond the grave to destroy any chance of peace or life for Captain Rice - and old friends are only making things more complicated!

All he wants is to be a businessman, but as the death toll mounts he must decide what is more important: his quiet life or the peace humanity has enjoyed for centuries.

    "Let down by narration"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Overall this audiobook is a disappointment, the narration is robotic and sub par.

If you’ve listened to books by Glynn Stewart before, how does this one compare?

    Exceedingly poorly

    "Disaster of a procuction"

This Audio Book was destroyed by the addition of Echo or Reverb. I have no idea why the audio book was setup that way, but I didn't make it passed chapter 3 before I gave up. It was a total disaster of a production. I will not buy anymore of the series.

"Decent story almost ruined by poor reading"

neither of the readers used different voices for different characters as a result it was quite frequently very difficult to tell who was actually speaking. also having to reader seems like overkill for such a simple story.

    "Good story, terrible narrators"

The story itself is good, even if it's not as good as the original series from which this is a spin off. The narrators however make it really hard to get through it. Two narrators combined have less range to their characters than good narrators do alone, and it makes it really confusing to keep track of characters. I buy audio books because I can get through books when I'm doing other things, but for the next one in this series I might have to consider the text version, as I don't think I can take more of this.

    "Good Book, Mediocre Narration"

If you are going to have multiple narrators then it would probably be better to have it sound like they are talking to each other instead of reading prepared speeches at each other.
Despite the lack of coordination between the two readers, the story itself shines through. Though maybe pick up a text copy instead of the audiobook.

a little weird how the narrator switch but you get used to it and it does add quite a bit to the experience. An overall great book

"this should have been a second book"

this should have been a second book in the series they needed to create a bridge book that was Stronger before this by itself it does have its merits and is a good start to a new series but for those of us who are fans of the hands of Mars there was something lacking in the first half of this book there was also another problem that got to technical with the fights on space stations overall as usual find job but as part of a cohesive part of the universe they should have brought Montgomery into it like just even mentioning his wire he's training and have him to some contact with the ship somewhere in the first part of the book would have helped

    "Setting up for something ..."

This book isn’t easy to review because it is clearly setting up for a new direction. This book feels like the pilot episode of a new tv series.
That being said, this book is really good. I’ve read every book in the Starships Mage universe and I’m a huge fan. This book has some brilliant moments but I will avoid spoilers. Let’s just say, the antagonist is dead set on vindication and it is a really cool idea.
