Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Gail Carriger comes the stunning sequel to Prudence.

Rue and the crew of the Spotted Custard return from India with revelations that shake the foundations of England's scientific community.

Queen Victoria is not amused, the vampires are tetchy, and something is wrong with the local werewolf pack. To top it all off, Rue's best friend, Primrose, keeps getting engaged to the most unacceptable military types.

Rue has family problems as well. Her vampire father is angry, her werewolf father is crazy, and her obstreperous mother is both. Worst of all, Rue's beginning to suspect that what they really are...is frightened.

pru is a spoilt & annoying character, otherwise ok

narrator good, but why has Biffy become an extra for a Spaghetti Western this series?

Loved this but it was over way too soon

What a great book, it made me laugh out loud (on the train; very embarrassing), it made me cry (but only a little bit and while I was home which was a relief), it also kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more.

Go listen to book one first, it's good too, then come back and enjoy. There are other books set in the same universe you meet more of the characters there. You are best to start with Soulless it's fantastic too.

Quirky steampunk travelling adventures

I really love this series, and in particular think it works really well on audio. I enjoyed the original Soulless series and this introduces familiar characters; but also has its own delightful crew. Lovely strong women characters and charming men. And of course, the plot, like custard thickens.

good continuation

if you enjoy the other Gail Carriger bond, then you will enjoy this. those not familiar with the parasol protectorate series may struggle to understand the storyline and done of why certain things are happening.

the leghorns by Moira Quirk is, as always, fantastic and her strong push brush ascent helps in making this series sound great.

the story is a bit of a gap covering story i think. great for people who enjoy the series as it tires quite a few loose ends while at the same time starting some great new possible storylines but it is very much an in series book.

Continuing Splendidly

This book was one I was fairly sure I'd like because I really enjoyed the first in the series. I didn't listen to the first one however, and so the actual listening element was new for me.
I have to say I think this was wonderfully narrated with a lot of great voice acting going on. I appreciate just how much a good narrator can add to a story and, whilst I know I'd have liked this either way, I'm very glad I chose this medium to read it because it was superb!

Adventure

Enjoyed the Steampunk elements, the supernaturals, family bonds aren’t necessarily those of blood. Interrelationship’s - no judgement , gender fluidity, love is love.
Disliked - the narrator’s pronunciation of Quesnel
How does it become Quinel? Leading one to put F’ck in front of it. No one reading the written word would have come up with Quinel from Quesnel surely.
