Summary

There's something different about Kate's four-year-old son. He wasn't created the old fashioned way. Now a violent cult wants him dead and Kate will do anything to protect him – until they take her daughter.

In tomorrow's world, Kate is haunted by a brutal past. Struggling to navigate a life that seems like an experiment in virtual reality, her paranoia threatens to consume her. But when someone tries to kidnap Mally, she realises she was absolutely right to be afraid.

With only hours to go before the cult's prophecy is to be fulfilled, Kate and Seth face more danger than they've ever imagined, desperate to keep him safe. However, the charismatic leader of the cult has other ideas, which puts Kate in an impossible position. Who will she choose to live, and who will she have to sacrifice?

Gripping

Narrator, Roshina Ratnam, brings the characters to life. Successfully conveys the incredulity, disbelief and horrific realisation of life threatening situations in the daily existence of JT Lawrence’s central characters.

He told me he was a suicide expert

Set four years after the ending of Why You Were Taken, reunited brother and sister Seth and Kate share his apartment as Kate brings up her twins, Silver and Mally. Kate was still suffering from her previous lifetime ordeal of separation, with panic attacks and flash back nightmares combined with the constant fears that her children would also be stolen. With good reason, it seems, as her closest friend soon discovers as there is a Resurrectionist prophesy that the last of the Genesis children "would lead us to the Edge" , ushering in the end of all humanity - unless he died before his fourth birthday. And Mally was the only one left and would be four in days.

This is a fast paced, futuristic story, which moves rapidly between the lives of the various main protagonists as they try to unravel what is happening as they also attempt to keep the children safe. With mysteries and twists in the action, the book takes the reader on a helta-skelter ride of action and emotion, this time building more in depth character than in the earlier book. Whilst it is possible to read this as a stand alone, without knowledge of what has gone before,, How We Found You would prove a confusing tale to follow.

The narrator is, once again, Roshina Ratnam, whose English accented reading is clear, with good intonation and her voicings of the individual characters is quite well differentiated. Her text readings are not quite fluent, punctuated with tiny pauses in the early stages but either this was altered as the work progressed or else this reader simply blocked them out with familiarity. It was not a major problem, however, merely a slight distraction. As mentioned in a previous review, the timbre of her speech leans towards little girlie, which fits the story well.

A rather mad-cap adventure with some engaging personalities as well as the emotional impact of a mother trying to save her children after she, herself, had endured emotional turmoil throughout her earlier life. I am grateful to the rights holder for freely gifting me a complimentary copy of the book, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you. There were parts which thrilled and some which didn't quite hang together, the overall idea was very interesting.

Solid sequel, strong narrative

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I'll admit that the first chapter or so of this didn't grab me - there was a storyline left slightly hanging in book one that didn't get closed off and that kind of thing bugs me. I'd gotten over that by about chapter 3. This is a solid sequel that throws some real curveballs.

Highly rate the narrator also.

Looking forward to book 3.

Outstandingly brilliant

There are not many authors whose books I would read, and then listen to on Audible, but JT Lawrence is definitely one of the select few. Boy oh boy, can that woman spin a tale? She really is the queen of dystopian fantasy. I absolutely love her books, and How We Found You, book 2 of the trilogy, is as brilliant, if not more so, than book 1. Her imagination is a thing of beauty and her writing is sheer joy. I cannot recommend her novels strongly enough, each one is a work of genius. You will be thanking me forever more. JT Lawrence, you are a star. Roshina Ratnam does your writing proud with excellent narration. I can't wait to listen to book 3. Thank you for the words, I am bowing before you whilst simultaneously giving you a standing ovation, (and believe me when I tell you that's not easy!). Simply sublime

Book 2

Lots of suspense, intrigue, drama and plot twists, The book kept me engaged until the very end and left me eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Really Good!

This book is so outside my normal genres of contemporary romance or mystery, but I found myself captivated by it. This story is part of a series and a standalone listen. I hadn't listened to the first book book in the series, but was immediately pulled into this story. The narrator did a fantastic job with her emotions and the various character voices. The storyline of kidnapping really pulled me in. Futuristic stories typically haven't been my thing, but the performance of the narrator added so much and made it enjoyable. I received a review copy of this audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. The author and narrator are both very talented, and I would listen to more of their works. I loved all of the twists this book had, and hadn't figured out who the kidnapper was initially or why.

A perfect follow-up

The second installment surpassed the first book in my opinion. I loved Why You Were Taken, but now that I have let the story wash over me, I think everything just clicked faster and it was just a simple continuation of the story. I just bought the third book so I am ready to dive right back in after writing this.

I appreciate the way JT Lawrence builds the characters and makes them human in an increasingly less human world. The way she creates the characters with real emotions and concerns is refreshing. They are not set as they started and they are not emotionally devoid either.

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys an immersive fabrication that makes you think when you should and keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering who and what are next.

As before, Roshina Ratnam did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life as well.

This book was given to me for free at my request for my voluntary and unbiased review.

Great Sequel To The Bleak Dystopian Series

I was thoroughly engaged throughout this sequel to Why You Were Taken. JT Lawrence made me feel the paranoia and dread Kate throughout. As before Keke is my favorite character and love any time she is taking front and center, which she gets to do a lot more in this book. The book lets you get into everyones frames of mind before things get rolling, and I find JT Lawrence is always able to make me feel what the characters are.

The narration by Roshina Ratnam was again great, love all of her characters and their inflections. Looking forward to more from this series, and the author in general.

Great 2nd book in this series!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Like with the first book, I really enjoyed this book. The author does a great job world building and developing the characters in the book. The narrator was VERY good. She really has an interesting accent and brought the characters to life. Definitely worth a credit.

an amazing thriller

I received this audiobook from the author for an honest review from my own free will.

I don't know how Janita does it, this books just gets you deep on the story, they begin slow to explain various situations and at the middle they just explode and the action spiral just unfurls and keep you on edge until the end. I can't wait enough for the next one to come and to know the end of this amazing tale.

The narrator was marvelous too she did a great job doing the voices, I loved them and she drown me on the story with her performance.

Suspenseful but mostly sad and troubling

I would say this book is good but all the way through the main character is fearful and on edge. We ride along with her fears and for me it got depressing. As her fears became reality it got even worse. We find out she had reason to be afraid and the book gets darker and more bleak. There was very little to feel good about so by the time I finished this book I felt drained. Roshina Ratnam has a beautiful voice, her narration was excellent and she was very easy to listen to. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Rollercoaster of thrills - Excellent!

A vision of Johannesburg in the not-distant future, this second book in the series is action-packed and addictive. Fresh, edgy, but with enough familiarity to keep the reader grounded in the world that they know, this thriller is sure to keep you in wondrous suspense from beginning to end.

As with book 1, the narration is excellent. South African to its core, the book with all its accents and colloquialisms keeps time with the universal theme of a dystopian futuristic climats while still maintaining an original vibe. Excellent read and audio experience!

Amazing Story...

Wow, what an amazing story!  This is actually the second book in a series, but it stands alone without any problem.
In the opening scene, the fear, panic, and desperation of our protagonist,  hits you like a mallet blow to the head, as she searches for her missing kids... Then the story backs off as it sets the stage for the thriller to come.
This story is told through several POV's; Kate, a kickass no nonsense kinda woman, her twin brother Seth, Kate's best-friend Keke, and Keke's boyfriend Marko... these four people fight for their lives and the lives of Kate's two children, in this cyberpunk thriller.
I happened to listen to the audio version and Roshina Ratnam did an amazing job, plus I loved the South African accent...
If you're like me once you read this, you're gonna have to dive into the rest of Lawrence's books...
How We Found You, found its way into my Top-10 books of 2017, and that's a Heck of an accomplishment!
