Summary
War rages in the Caradryad Sector. Worlds are falling to madness and rebellion, and the great war machine of the Imperium is moving to counter the threat. Amongst its agents is Inquisitor Covenant. Puritan, psyker, expert swordsman, he reserves an especial hatred for those of his order who would seek to harness the power of Ruin as a weapon.
Summoned to an inquisitorial conclave, Covenant believes he has uncovered such a misguided agent and prepares to denounce the heretic Talicto before his fellows. But when the gathering is attacked and many left dead in its wake, Covenant vows to hunt down Talicto and discover the truth behind the mysterious cult apparently at the heart of the massacre, the Unseen. In the murky plot into which he is drawn, Covenant knows only one thing for certain: trust no one.

Thoroughly entertaining.
This actually being the very first audiobook I have listened to, I began this novel quite skeptical but very quickly found myself swept up in the storyline following Covenant's hunt for Talicto, and really enjoyed the experience.
John Bank's narration is at times quite hysterical, but he breathes life into even the coldest of the book's characters, and though the plot is certainly fast paced, one quickly comes to grips with the various flavours of personality that comprise the inquisitorial war bands.
Really though, it was the periodic comic relief that is Cleander von Castellan that earns this review the last star!

Not what I expected!
I'll be honest, I have thus far really enjoyed all of the Warhammer 40k books, why this one in particular? It's an Inquisition story, so plot twists, secrets within lies and the truth when you least expect it.
Listen to it if you are a fan of Inquisition stories, if not listen to it because the story and characters will hook you..

Ugh
Dull and predictable. Couldn’t tell the difference between any of the female characters due to the narrator not having much range.

LOVED THIS
not got a bad word to say about this, John Banks is excellent although Vult sounds suspiciously like the Deathguard apothacary Khorag Sinj from The Josh Reynolds Fabius Bile series. Just letting you know @John Banks I got my beady eye on you lol

Excellent
John French has forged a fascinating insight into the internecine conflicts of the inquisition within Imperium Nihilus. Covenant and the supporting characters are very well realised. Superb voice acting. Highly recommended.

Well read but story and characters not engaging
Good narration, weak plot, mostly forgettable characters. Main hero very dull and one-note. Action heavy

Complex story with lots of characters - a bit of struggle to follow on the commute
Great performance and a lot of characters. However, I struggled to keep up and remember what was going on while listening on the commute.

Dull
can honestly say the first book I have listened to where I actually felt like I wasted money.
Did not care for any of the characters they were 2d and uninteresting.
about half way through I lost hope in it picking up but the story moved on at disjointed pace with no satisfactory conclusion.
