Great book poorly read

I found that B Giraudeau destroyed some of the characters by making their voice too eccentric, from book nbr 5 there is a better french narrator

Difficult to understand

I chose to listen to the French version of Harry Potter to help my French listening skills as I know the English version very well and am also reading the book in French at the same time.

However, I found the ridiculous accents Bernard puts on for several of the characters makes it incredibly difficult to understand the words they are saying - way over the top and gets in the way of telling the story.

Douloureux à finir à cause du narrateur

Would you try another book written by J.K. Rowling or narrated by Bernard Giraudeau?

What three words best describe Bernard Giraudeau’s voice?

Très. Mauvais. Choix.

Superbe lecture

Dreadful

The narration spoils the whole book. The voices, especially Harid's make it quite unpleasant to listen to. The rhythm of the reading is missing, the volume of the different voices goes up and down too much, so it's not relaxing to listen too. The characters are changed by the voices used, eg Harid sounds like he's really stupid, which of course, in the books, he is not. We have tried several times to listen to the book but have failed, which is a shame as this is one of our favourite stories. We have the English version, read by Stephen fry, this is superb.

not my favorite version,annoying voices

I've heard HP audiobooks in multiple languages, as I consider it an amazing material for language learning, knowing these books almost by heart. However, I was disappointed by this version. Voices are very annoying (especially Ron and Hagrid), mr. Giraudeau is presenting it not very naturally, some characters are whispering or laughing in the places where it totally doesn't fit. Comparing for example to Italian version from Francesco Pannofino, this vesion has a lot worse quality. I won't buy next parts in French.

Narrator too intrusive

I try to read/listen to as much as I can in French in order to improve my language skills. I love these stories in English (brilliantly read by Stephen Fry) but this narrator is more concerned with demonstrating his acting skills than observing the intention of the author. I can't bear to listen to this or the others he has narrated and will have to delete them. A waste of money!

How to butcher a great book?

I love Harry Potter books. Love them in Hungarian, love them in English and I am pretty much sure I'd love them in French as well. But the reader kills the whole book. I was always sceptical when someone wrote that the narrator ruins the book for them. Well thats exactly what Bernard Giraudeau do: not only makes all the character sound super dumb and irritating but also make voices that make absolutely no sense. Additionally I can only follow the story because I nearly know it by heart, because some parts of the book are just lost in narration.

An other very sad thing: the narrator assaulted the French language as well. I am really sad that I purchased this piece. It is deeply terrible.

Awful narrator

Apparently, the guy who narrated this is now dead.
I read some of the reviews that slated the narration, and I should have heeded their warnings!
It’s dreadful and embarrassing to listen to. I also bought the German version, which is great, btw!
I’m going to have to send this back as I can’t take anymore of the over acting and total lack of sensitivity to the original.
I’m using these books to improve my foreign language skills.....

His idea of how the characters sound is so unconvincing and almost offensive! Unbearable.
Please get these books re read by someone who knows what they are doing!
Ps I only gave 3 stars for the story as I don’t like the way the French translation felt the had to change names, etc.
