Publisher's Summary

It's the master tactician of the ruthless Galactic Empire versus the Free Planets Alliance in Japan's greatest space opera epic!

In the 36th century, humanity has conquered the galaxy and colonized countless star systems. The Galactic Empire, modeled along Prussian lines, and the democratic Free Planets Alliance are at war, and the fate of every human being in the universe hangs in the balance. This classic Japanese space opera, adapted into a legendary anime, is finally available in English for the first time.

A grand scheme for retaking Iserlohn is delivered to Reinhard, who, with renewed determination, seeks to become ruler of the galaxy and to fulfill the oath he made with a dear departed friend. But what are the aims of Phezzan, the third force at work behind the scenes? Meanwhile, no sooner is Yang breathing a sigh of relief when Julian returns from his first combat mission than he is summoned to an inquest and departs for the capital of the alliance. As if waiting for this opportunity to strike, however, the imperial military's secret weapon appears right at the gates of Iserlohn. The battle begins! Who will endure?

    Story
    "I simply loved it."

Somehow, this book is just as entertaining as anime series. I especially liked the moments which weren't included in the anime. Like Yang being irritated by having coffee instead of tea.

    Story
"More like a book two: continued than a book three."

As a the third audiobook of the "Legend of Galactic Heroes" series, "Endurance" is an example of a scenario where one could accidently listen to it before the second book and not even notice until near the book's completion. The tone, story's focus on political corruption, and characters positions don't really change from where they were in the second book. New events happen, some of them interesting, but the entire thing feels more like a prolonging of book two than a third story.

This dragging out of book two themes isn't helped by the continuation of the incredibly slow pace that has also carried over. Tim Gerard Reynolds is a very talented narrator and he continues his good work here, but there is only so much he can do before the a achingly slow story arcs start testing a listener's focus. This story also ends somewhat inconclusively without really wrapping up any loose ends, character arcs or even changing the setting much and leaving the impression that another entry into the series lies just around the corner.

This audiobook is recommended to listeners who enjoyed the second "Legend of Galactic Heroes" audiobook and want a more-of-the-same experience.  This audiobook is almost interchangeable  with book two, but listening to book one first is still necessary to understand it.
