Publisher's Summary

Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world's record, three-mile-deep mine shaft. EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources, and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure. But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting...and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.

    Any additional comments?

I've been waiting for this for so long and was worried that I'd overhyped it to myself. But no, not at all! This is one of those stories when I found myself parked in the drive listening to the end of a chapter and wondering whether I could listen to another before stopping for the night. It also made me late for work. Loved the storyline, loved the characters and the ending. Hoping for a sequel.

    "Brilliant. "

A slow start, but once it gets going, it's unstoppable. Gripping you refusing to let go leaving you wanting more. The story could translate into a low budget cheesy film. But as a book it's magnificent.

    "Great gripping story"

I first heard the original version via a CD on the cover of a magazine many years ago and enjoyed it then.
This re-write is just as gripping. In many ways this is better, although I do miss Scott's voice reading this. The voice acting is good and helps to add to the drama.
In several places it got my pulse racing.
A great book for people who like sci-fi adventures with a bit of the technical details thrown in.

"Awesome Book. Well written and very creative!"

This book was very hard to stop once I started. I really enjoyed everything about it. I like how it's a mystery science fiction book and seems to be poised for a series. The characters are very well developed and each have true motivations. I like the way Sigler takes the time tell the story. He really doesn't rush anything. He is clearly a very creative person with a big imagination. I can also tell he spent time learning about the mining industry. What would a sci-fi book be these days without cool technology and of course guns? He delivers on the tech side and gives us some nice action scenes. The Kool suits are badass. I wouldn't have minded him expanding the gun/black ops aspect but it seems that will be coming in the next book if there is one. Overall I highly recommend the book and really look forward to the next one.

Now for Ray Porter. He is the best narrator on audible right now. I enjoy listening to books and for me the narrator is a big factor for the books I choose. Ray gives an amazing performance in Earthcore. He makes the book rise up and brings each character to life with unique voices. I also enjoyed the little bit of production in there. They use a little sound in between each intense scene to kind of accent the moment. Usually that type of thing is annoying but it works great with Ray Porter's bad@ss performance.

"Don't Start Reading until you have Time"

Who would ever think that a story about mining could be so addictive? This is a complex book with many storylines. Although mining loosely ties the stories together, the rich component of characters is at the heart of the story. There is a lot of action and a lot of twining plot lines.
I don't want to give away the story so I will just say I spent every possible moment reading " just one more chapter." I was truly sorry when the book ended so I just read it again immediately!

    "Signer & Porter? Yes, please"
What did you love best about Earthcore?

Fast paced, bogged down a little bit in the middle, but overall kept my interest through the whole 19 hours.

What did you like best about this story?

The character development. I felt like I really got to know (most of) the reasons the characters reacted the way they did.

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Porter is hands down my favorite narrator and was a perfect choice for this book. I have listened to almost everything he has done. This was an automatic buy for me, and did not disappoint.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Why is this not a movie already?

    Any additional comments?

Well worth the credit, highly recommend.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Its a good listen. Story is a bit awkward when it comes to the sci-fi part, but otherwise hard to put down.

If you’ve listened to books by Scott Sigler before, how does this one compare?

Never heard of him before, sorry.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Liked the beginning, all the geology analyzing stuff, etc,

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I wasn't exactly moved by this book.

    Any additional comments?

The narrator Ray Porter was superb and made it worth the time. How come he is not more famous? He is a great actor. If he could vary his female voices as well a he does the male, it would be even better. Not easy, though, being a man..

    "One of my favorite audiobooks!"

This is an excellent book, an excellent author and an excellent narrator! The world's first podcast only novel, now reworked by the author to better fit his universe, and narrated by one of the absolute best narrator's out there. If you like Joe ledger, read it. If you like Joe Rush, read it. You like Peter Clines, read it. If you like many other books that either straddle the lines between or sit solidly inside horror, science fiction or thriller, you should read this book. And the epilogue made me dance a jig! Seriously, Most of the books I've read by sigler are amazing! Especially the infected books and Ancestor.

"...I guess my expectations were just set too high."

I'm going to keep this short and succinct so I don't accidently drop a spoiler.

There was a sizable cast of characters in this story, but with one or two possible exceptions, they were all so unlikable that I really didn't care what happened to them in any given scene. That made it difficult enough to enjoy, but what drove me crazy about the story was the totally unbelievable motivating factor that drives the primary antagonist. I can suspend an awful lot of disbelief to enjoy a thriller, but that was just too much for me.
