Publisher's Summary

With the War treaty signed, the Galactic Fleet is now on permanent stand down. But a treaty doesn't mean an end to the violence, corruption, piracy, or tyranny in the galaxy. The Galactic Fleet's solution is a crack team of Special Ops Marines: Drop Team Zero.

Made up of the absolute fighting best from humans, alien races, hybrids, and even AI androids, Drop Team Zero is called on to handle the worst of the worst, missions that others would tag as pure suicide. But when Drop Team Zero arrives, the only threat of suicide is for the ones that stand in their way.

Join drop team zero, "the best team the Galaxy had ever seen" on their mission to recover the kidnapped son of a Councillor. They are a mixed bunch of human, alien and AI androids, a close knit group of special ops marines working for the Galactic Fleet., Needless to say, the rescue does not go smoothly, and with one of their own abducted, their pursuit takes them to distant parts of the galaxy.

Jake Bible has peopled his book with fantastic personalities, from the disparate forms of the brothers (and sisters) of the team itself, to enemy aliens and other crews encountered along the way. Vividly described by the author and stunningly well voiced by the narrator, they are an imaginative explosion of life in every form, colour and ability sharing one thing - they can all die (probably!). Verbal interaction between the protagonists is well constructed, often funny and very human. There is an especially well observed meeting of officials after the initial failure to safely recover the boy where the different faction heads rehearse what has happened, what needs to happen next and, in particular, who is to blame - a brilliant rendering of bickering and attempted buck passing - whilst all the while the father of the boy who was to have been rescued is ignored with each of his attemps to urge speed in returning his son. Very real, very amusing - very sad.

With such fantastical characters, the fight scenes just have to be good - and they are. As previously mentioned, each individual is distinctly and appropriately voiced: Andrew Wehrein's repertoire seems endlessly good. His dramatisation also offered just the right level of emotion, although I personally found his gun shot staccato fast reading of the text itself, which also held an almost musical lilt, a little distracting even though it did reflect the writing itself.

Fantastical characters, great dialogue, good action and humour all made this book an enjoyable and thrilling listen. My thanks to the rights holder for gifting me a copy of Drop Team Zero, via Audiobook Boom. Hopefully there will be a follow-up story and another chance to catch up with this exciting fighting team.

    "Modernised 50's comic book story"

“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.” This was an interesting story with plenty of action and some really freaky aliens. It kind of reminded me of the sci-fi comic books I used to read as a child (like Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon) all good guys will always win and all bad guys always lose. Luckily the author made his females more kick ass than they were back then and the bad guys didn't always lose making it a little bit more acceptable to me. The narrator did a great job keeping the fast paced action going without the listener losing track of who was speaking (which I hate when it happens). Unfortunately the whole thing ended with a lot of unanswered questions and a new mission on the boards so I was a little surprised when the words 'The End' were spoken. As most of my readers know I HATE cliffhangers and that one really threw me and I'm not sure if I'll get any more from this author in case all his books are like that. Maybe I'll try the next one when it comes out and be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't have a cliffhanger?

    "Worth a listen."

    Story
Jake Bible crafts a good story that is well paced and interesting. A Story about an elite team of special forces, out to complete their mission. A simple premise that stands up well due to the quality of the writing and characters.Clearly meant to be the fist part of a plot line I look forward to seeing what happens in the next book.

The setting seems to have a lot of possibilities as well, lots of alien races, different factions, past conflicts. There is a lot of space for things to happen in this setting be it other books, games, films or what ever.

    Cast
Interesting, each with their own personality and motivations. I would like to listen to more books with the same core cast, Jake Bible seems to have a talent for creating characters and having them all be distinct and well written. You could put the characters in any situation and their interactions would make it interesting due to their banter.

As expected in group of special forces the characters seem a little over powered yet still mortal. Importantly they can still face risk and be threatened.

    Narration
Andrew B. Wehrlen does a good job, each character has their own voice and way of speaking which adds to the immersion and enjoyment of the audio book. I like what they add to the experience and will be happy to listen to more books narrated by Andrew B. Wehrlen

(This is just my preference but as I listen to audio books at I work I found the narration to be just a little too fast unless you can focus completely on the book, Setting it to 90%-95% speed on the app fixed that making it much easier to follow when doing housework, walking or any other task you may listen to audio books when doing.)

    Summery
Well worth a listen. My only question is what happens next?

    3.5 stars

Good start to a series. Another entertaining, humorous, engaging and enjoyable story from Jake Bible. The story hits the ground running and just keeps going.

Really enjoy the combination of Jake Bible and Andrew Wehrlen. As soon as I see that combination I know I'm about to be drawn into an alternate universe and be thoroughly entertained no matter what the story is.

The Galaxy is a treacherous place. Drop Team Zero is who you want when you need a job done. Sent on a mission to rescue a councilors son they soon realize the mission is not what they thought it was. Even though they are the best at what they do even Drop Team Zero can encounter a situation that they are not prepared for.

Large cast of creative and unusual characters. Curious to see how his worlds or characters are going to intersect. Or if they will at all. I hope they do. That would be one action packed book.

This is the first book of the series and it leaves off with the next mission for Drop Team Zero. Looking forward to it.

Andrew B. Wehrlen does a fantastic job with the narration once again. Nice voice. Easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Great tone and delivery for the sarcasm and humor. Really good character voices, all of them. He pulls you into the story and brings it and the characters to life through his narration. Very enjoyable

    "A pretty good sci-fi/space story"
What did you love best about Drop Team Zero?

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. The action is pretty good, keeping you interested when things seem to slow down. The narrator does a good job on giving each character a unique voice, hard to do when aliens are involved. It was nice to see a story where the good guys don't always win (though they do win more than lose) and there is a good mix of aliens, not just mostly humans.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Drop Team Zero?

I'm not sure if I found any of the moments memorable but they were good. The dialogue and actions of some of the characters really do seem like something a person would do (the politicians ignoring the father of the boy, trying to decide on how they're going to react to things for example). Everyone, even the aliens, seems to react and talk in a believable way.

Have you listened to any of Andrew B. Wehrlen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to Mr. Wehrlen's work before but his voice and tone worked well with this story. He does a good job keeping your interest going during the slow times, speeding things up when something important, action-oriented, is going on. I wouldn't mind hearing some of the other books he has.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

While I don't always like cliffhangers in my books, I'm interested enough in the story to want to read/listen to the next book. I'm hoping it's as good as this one.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this story and Mr. Wehrlen does a very good job in narrating the story. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

    "Great action sci-fi"

I have a few other books by Jake Bible and have yet to find one I didn't love. I really enjoy his writing style and sense of humor. I did really enjoy this book, but there is a lot to keep track of at first. It's a bit overwhelming. Had to listen to it twice. Great action sci-fi.

Andrew Wehrlen is a wonderful narrator. I always enjoy his books.

    "Suspension of disbelief"

I had to stop listening, not because of the narrative, he is One Off the redeeming qualites of this production.

The problem is that the author is not consistent in his own universe and this is a problem because that means my suspension of disbelief never comes in to play, which means it gets jarring as fuck.

That is also a thing that is bullshit and that is when the protagonist swears they say thing like "snafu" and "shoot". It is almost as if this book is written by someone that is religious and is forbidden to swear and course.

Also the author DO not know His physics.

Don't waste your credits biuy another book.

"A sci-fi universe to rival star wars"

Author and narrator combine to bring you into another facet of an ever expanding universe that rivals Star Wars in depth of races, characters, tech and more. I find the universe and characters to be a more edgy modernized group that really brings you in and keeps you there as the author reveals more and more to you each time you get a new story. What direction is the universe heading? Will the various groups and characters meet up for one amazing conclusive culmination of the various story lines
Or will they drift through their own sections of the universe? I don't know but I sure am enjoying the time and can't wait for the next bit. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
