Critic reviews

"The transformation of Menolly from a terrified outcast to a woman secure within herself is skillfully handled, making her a sympathetic character with whom many readers will identify." ( School Library Journal)
"A superbly crafted fantasy in the heroic tradition....Unlike many sequels, this maintains the dramatic tensions of its predecessor." ( Horn Book)
"Although set in another world, where dragons fly and people have fire lizards as pets, Menolly's innermost concerns are wholly contemporary." ( Booklist)

glad to meet old friends again

I read the pern books as a teenager and it's been such a joy to discover them on audible. Simple tales of growth and learning in a world where hard work and merit are rewarded. during the current dark days they have been light relief.

I have always loved this part of the dragons of pern best and I can now listen while reading along, or just listen

Dragonsinger

I loved hearing this book using Audible . Even though I had read it some time ago I found a different experience and in the excitement of the book with hearing it read to me . I would recommend anyone to give Audible a try and also all the Pern series of books by Anne McCafree.

A song well sung

This book was read by me a couple of decades ago with good memories and the book has stood the test of time. An excellent story, well presented. One of a series of books that are worth investigating and are an excellent listen as McCaffery is a master story teller.
Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Lovely, just lovely

A deeply underrated writer whose work has been classified as light/fantasy, but is buried in science, as you’d realise, once you make your way through the Pern books.

The audiobook is well read, and I cannot find fault with this version.

If only someone would tackle “The Ship Who Sang”, and the “Crystal Singer” books in their unabridged forms.

Comfort Food for the Ears

I love the original Chronicles of Pern series. McCaffrey was a great story teller who never had to resort to gratuitous violence, overt sexuality or shock value. There is an innocent wisdom to these books. I thought the narrator was lovely. I could imagine that McCaffrey was reading herself.

Great read, brought tears to my eyes.

The reading and story are lovely.
There’s an issue with the production as the Chapter numbers are incorrect. I guess it may be because it was produced a long time ago. I had to jump about a bit to listen to the story.
