Summary

Stepping out of the Tardis into Victorian London, Leela and the Doctor are confronted by menacing, diabolical horrors shrouded within the swirling London fog - a man's death cry, an attack by Chinese Tong hatchet men, giant rats roaming the sewers, young women mysteriously disappearing...

The hideously deformed Magnus Greel, conducting a desperate search for the lost Time Cabinet, is the instigator of all this evil. Posing as the Chinese god Weng-Chiang, Greel uses the crafty Chang, and the midget manikin Mr Sin to achieve his terrifying objectives. The Doctor must use all his skill, energy, and intelligence to escape the talons of Weng-Chiang. Christopher Benjamin, who played Henry Gordon Jago in the original BBC TV serial, reads Terrance Dicks' complete and unabridged novelisation, first published by Target Books in 1977.

Having listened to all of Jago and Lightfoot it was lovely to hear where it started.

A fan favourite read by a popular character

I enjoyed this retelling of the popular story of Talons of Weng Chiang. It was great to hear Christopher Benjamin narrating the story as he bought Henry Gordon Jago to life. The only slight criticism I have is that he seemed to be somewhat rushed in his delivery. Moreover, having heard several volumes of Jago and Lite foot, I couldn't help but wish to be that Trevor Baxter had been co-reading it so the story was retold in the same manner as the Mohagony Murders. Overall, if you're a fan of the fourth Doctor and Jago and Litefoot you should enjoy this.
