"Being to drag the story out"

I cannot help but think that they are now dragging the story out and filling pages with over the top individual internal dialog. When you actually review what actually happened in this book there wasn't much.

I'm still enjoying the story but I think they need to start focusing on ending the story and not hanging around too long and undermining their good work.

    "A Slackening of the Pace"

This series has felt like a delicious guilty pleasure for some time. The heady mix of special ops elite forces, imaginatively formed and described battle scenes and of course R.C. Bray’s urgent narration style have had me gripped pretty much from the start. This was the series that first opened my eyes to just how entertaining the zombie genre can be.

It’s still a great series but to me this is the weakest book of the series so far. For at least the first two thirds of the book the main story moves very slowly as we jump between locales and characters. The good news is that all the main guys we’ve come to love are still there being the bad asses we’ve come to love them for but the bad news is that they’ve developed an increasing penchant for emotional flashbacks and introspection!

This is still a good listen and there are some of the trademark action scenes and Special ops “toughness” as you would expect. It’s all urged on by R.C. Bray who delivers as well as in the other books but it doesn’t drive on in quite the same breathtaking way. In fact it gets going and then ends very abruptly right in the middle of the action. If it weren’t for the “preview” of the next book that is kindly included I would have been just a bit irritated at where this one ended.

So, still a great and very well narrated series and I’ve already pre-ordered the next one. I just hope that it gets back to being as stellar as it has been up to now The way this one ended gives real hope for that.

"Skip this and wait for the next, nothing happens"

Like a terrible TV show, repeats of the previous books and flash backs. The book is written like a script for a TV show, drawn out with nothing being achieved. Leaves a terrible empty feeling.

    "Episodic and incomplete"

This is a good series however we've strayed into what feels like Saturday morning cinema territory with a cliff hanger ending every week. If it's going to be episodic at least end each book.

Love hard sci-fi such as "The Martian", but also things like the Culture novels and military fiction and zombie/preppers books.

Seems one cannot escape the honourable Americans vs "child-maiming Ruskies" (quote from the book) narrative even 2 years after a zombie-apocalypse. What a disappointing turn of events. time to put this overly-milked, but otherwise great series to bed I guess.

R.C. Bray st a top-notch narrator as always!

End of interest in the JFK ground plot. Might just need a break from listening to to many audio books over all good read and good value thus far

"As good as all the others"

I nearly skipped this title because several reviews said this book focused too heavily on character development to the detriment of the story.
    NO SO!
In my opinion this books was just as good as all the others. Glad I didn't skip it and miss out. I found the story vivid and entertaining.
    Enjoy!

Ps - Narrator is brilliant as always.

    "Almost didn't bother Book 7"
Would you consider the audio edition of Death of Empires to be better than the print version?

Have not read print version, if the narrator is good you can't beat audio books.

What did you like best about this story?

I thought the story was great and I like the shift and pick up of the storyline in the various locations. For good or bad the characters do feel like real people. I don't understand why some reviewers are complaining, this book is not slow, the pace is logical for the situations that are arising. I felt the story moved along well and was as thrilling as the others in the series.

Which character – as performed by R. C. Bray – was your favourite?

Ali the female Special Delta Operative

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I enjoy most of the books from Audible. I listen when I go to bed, I generally find them relaxing....The Arisen series is having the opposite effect and keeping me awake, I'm even sneaking off and listening during the day.

    Any additional comments?

This is the most thrilling and enjoyable series of books I have listened to, the depth of the story and attention to detail is second to none. The authors have built a believable Zombie Apocaliptic World which I might survive in a bit longer if the worst ever happens now that I've read these books!

"Exciting Zombie battles continue with answers"
What did you love best about Death of Empires?

After reading all 6 titles previously in this series, it was nice to see some answers given, like how, why and where. Excellent. Enthusiastically waiting for the rest of the series.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

R.C. Bray is simply my fave narrator, incredible range with the different characters and performance is simply outstanding. Totally enjoyed the performance.

    Any additional comments?

This story grows on you and your connection continues to grow with the characters. Having several stories going on at the same time in several places makes this an edge of your seat kind of story. I can't wait for the next one!

    "Less zombies, more Russians."

In book seven less fighting zombies and more fighting Russians. This book focuses more on the Russian threat, the Russian background concerning the virus, and the return to Fortress Britain and it's status in the war. We meet the creator of the virus as well. Lots of action, continued character development, and excellent build-up for the next book.
