Publisher's Summary

One bite used to be the difference between life and death, until biotech giant Hemisphere developed Necrophage - the drug that stopped the zombie plague in its undead tracks. But quick solutions often come with steep consequences.

The Sherman Pope virus is no longer a death sentence to the infected, but only if they receive treatment in time. Clarifiers must decide who will be treated and who is turned out into the Yosemite Preserve to turn feral and be hunted for sport.

Tens of millions survive, taking a daily dose of Necrophage to suspend the progression of Sherman Pope. Some live and work among the living. Some barely survive. All exist in the space between life and death - in varying states of decay.

No one knows how the virus originated or how long the treatment will work. So when Hemisphere executive Ian Keys receives a mysterious research assignment, he risks uncovering a secret far more dangerous than the virus he's spent his career containing.

Can Ian discover the truth in time to save the population - both the living and the necrotic - from a real zombie apocalypse?

In this gripping "Walking Dead meets All the President's Men" technothriller, best-selling authors Johnny B. Truant and Sean Platt blend real-world genetic engineering and high-stakes corporate espionage to deliver a heart-pumping race against the clock to save humanity.

    Story
    "Excellent Narration, Good Thriller"
What made the experience of listening to Dead City, Book 1 the most enjoyable?

Scott Brick does an excellent job narrating this story and brings the characters to life.

What did you like best about this story?

The world was an interesting premise where there was a zombie outbreak but it had been halted in its tracks.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The only other story I've heard Scott Brick narrate was a companion story to this one, so it was performed in the exact same style.

    Any additional comments?

The story was a little predictable but did a good job of moving forward at a quick pace and is an easy listen at just over 12 hours long.

    Story
    "Very Tedious!"

When selecting Audible books, one of the first places I look is for anything Scott Brick has performed. So, when I saw a Zombie/Walking Dead offering done by Scott, I said, "How bad can it be?". Well, I thought this one was pretty bad. I almost stopped listening around the half-way point, but I had hope it would improve. Ummm.... NOPE!!
I guess I will have to be a bit more careful about selecting Audible purchases just because they are performed by Scott. Had anyone else performed this read, I certainly would have stopped a lot sooner. Maybe I am just "Zombied Out", but I would suggest waiting for a few more reviews before purchasing this book. I can't even imagine that this is book 1 of a series! Good gosh, what more can they say?

    "Loved it"

A zombie book that isn't a recycled story. How refreshing. Neither is is a mindless slasher piece. Interesting, tense and even funny at times. Can't wait till the next one hits audible.

    Story
    "Kept me captivated"

Normally, I will start a book to listen on my commute to work and anytime I am in the car. This one however I listened to after I got home. Was somewhat predictable on who created the virus, but the science and story to get there was great.

Good listen. I will be waiting for number 2. Mystery political and Scott Brick is a winning combo.

    "Amazing!"

Once I started I couldn't stop. I listen on my commute to work and just as the story was finishing I arrived home. I sat in my car for ten minutes just to hear how it ended.

    Story
"Don't call it a ZOMBIE NOVEL!!"
What made the experience of listening to Dead City, Book 1 the most enjoyable?

    Scott Brick and the storytelling.

What did you like best about this story?

It's not like anything else out there that I've read in this genre. You could be completely bored by zombie stories at this point and this book would still rock your socks off. Johnny B. Truant's science background has played a real part in constructing a believable storyline that successfully relays the viral mechanics without inundating the reader...it flows into the story. Just a stellar job.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The mall scene, man. The MALL SCENE.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Love the scene near the end when Danny is outside the trailer. The description of the eyes. I couldn't possibly say any more about it. Trust me.

    Any additional comments?

This is Truant and Platt's best to date. Having Scott Brick narrate it really sent it over the top. Stellar performance and a storyline that drags you forward, even though it's bed time. Amazeballs.
