I've never been afraid of the dark...but that doesn't mean I wanted to live in it. Maybe everyone wants what they can't have, but I should've thought it over before I unlocked the door to their forbidden world. Number One is mostly silent. He watches me very carefully. Number Two is mostly gentle. But it's the other side of him I like best. Number Three is mostly reserved. It was carnal, it was sensual, and it was erotic. That's it. That's all it was supposed to be. A trip into the dark. A peek into the forbidden. I just didn't expect to like them.
Marnie's first big FBI case ended with a bullet in one shoulder and a chip on the other, a queasy heart and a serial killer in the wind, leaving her a public flop and a private wreck. When the FBI's preternatural crimes unit tracks her down at a remote mountain lodge for her insight on a local case, her quiet retirement is promptly besieged by a stab-happy starlet, a rampaging ghoul, and a vampire-hunting jackass in tight Wranglers. Marnie figures the only real mystery is which one will kill her first.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I'd never been able to forget - even though he so easily forgot about me - and call him. Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you've had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless prank call. Instead I went off on him - unloading 13 years of pent-up emotions. I didn't think he'd call me back.
He wants things from me. Dirty things, nasty things, forbidden things. And I have to give in. His attention is completely inappropriate, but I can't say no. The way he looks at me...the way he watches me through my bedroom window...the way he drags me deeper and deeper into his completely forbidden fantasy just...turns me on. He knows it turns me on. He holds all the power. He holds all the cards. He holds my entire future in his hands. I have to give in. Because Mr. Alesci is my teacher. And I need everything he's offering.
Five Aston has known Rory Shrike for as long as he can remember. He played with her in the sandbox. He went to every damn horse show just to be supportive. He helped her with her French, walked her home from school, and faked his test scores just to stay with her a little longer and not be sent off to college early. But eventually he had to move on. And so did she. Never has a second chance meant so much to a boy who loves a girl.
Grace Kinsella is social. But she likes the anonymity of being a blue bird on Twitter, where she can shoot arrows of pithy filth at her favorite movie star. Virtual love is right up her alley. Vaughn Asher is dominant. But only in private. A former child actor turned mega-movie action hero, Vaughn knows how to navigate a world filled with paparazzi, avoid the tabloids, and have his fun, too.
Rook Walsh is tragic. Because life so far - just sucks. Some girls get parents. Rook got the foster care system. Some girls get Prince Charming. Rook got an abusive frog. Some girls get lucky…. Rook got a second chance. And she took it. Because when fate throws you a bone - you grab it with both hands and run. Antoine Chaput knows the minute he spies Rook in his photography studio that she's got "The Look." The dark and desperate look he must have to land the exclusive Tragic Media contract. Rook is paired up with top model, Ronin, and he's everything her abusive ex-boyfriend wasn't.
"Figure out what's good for the City and put it first," she says. Oh, honey...what's good for the City is bad for the people. Trust me, I know. I'm Case Reider - insane Alpha, nefarious inventor, and I understand this town better than anyone. Cathedral City needs me all right. Just not the way you think. I'm not the justice you're looking for, Lulu Lightly. I'm still the same villain you left behind. Only now...there's something very, very wrong with me.
Jackson "The Beast" Boudreaux is rich, gorgeous, and unbelievably rude to the staff at Chef Bianca Hardwick's New Orleans restaurant. Bianca would sooner douse herself in hot sauce than cook for Jackson again, but when he asks her to cater his fundraiser, Bianca can't refuse, knowing the cash will help pay her mother's medical bills. Then Jackson makes another outrageous request: Marry me. The unconventional offer includes an enormous sum - money Bianca desperately needs, even if it does come with a contract - and a stunning ring.
Seoafin "Finnie" Wilde was taught by her parents that every breath was a treasure and to seek every adventure she could find. And she learns this lesson the hard way when they perish in a plane crash. But she never forgets, and when she discovers there is a parallel universe where every person has a twin, she finds a witch who can send her there so she can have the adventure of a lifetime. But upon arrival in the Winter Wonderland of Lunwyn, she realizes she's been played by her twin and finds herself walking down the aisle to be wed to The Drakkar.
Part of a small demon lair in Las Vegas, tattooist Harper Wallis lives a pretty simple life. That changes overnight when she discovers that her psychic mate, or 'anchor', is a guy who's rumoured to be the most powerful demon in existence. Compelling, full of secrets and armed with raw sexuality, Knox Thorne is determined to claim her as his anchor, creating a psychic bond that will prevent their inner demons from ever turning rogue.
It started out like any other morning on the train - until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle. He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world. Who did the stuck-up suit think he was...God? Actually, he looked like a god. That was about it.
How long can you lie to yourself before it all comes apart?
In 2152, the avian race is on Earth looking for something stolen from them decades ago - their genetics. At the center of the search lies the Rural Republic; a small backwards farming country with high hopes of military domination and a penchant for illegal bioengineering.
19-year-old Junco Coot is the daughter of the Rural Republic's ranking commander. She's the most foul-mouthed, wildly unpredictable and ruthless sniper the Rural Republic has ever trained. But when her father's death sparks a trip into forbidden places, she triggers events that will change everything she knows to be true.
As an elite avian military officer, Tier's mission is to destroy the bioengineering projects, kill Commander Coot's daughter, and return home immediately. There's just one problem. Junco isn't who she claims to be.
With no one to trust, not even herself, Junco must confront the secrets of her past and accept her place in the future, or risk losing herself completely.
love this book and this series when i read i so much better on audible love the voice too x
This series is amazing in book form, the best SCI-FI series I've read in a long time.
But like a lot of SCI-FI books they take a little while to get into, but not this audio.
From the beginning the reader sets the scene with her voice and expressions and you feel the passion she has for this character. You feel like you are in the war between humans and avians and you wanna kick some ass too!!!
It's safe to say I will be purchasing the next one
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The main character is lauded as a badass by many reviewers. However she has her agency taken from her so many times in the first couple of hours. Repeatedly having her head messed with against her will by the male lead.
In addition to being frequently being injured and maimed said injuries are just brushed away as trivial by the male lead as well, The treatment of, what started out to be a thoroughly independent and interesting character just led me to check out before even finishing the book.
Would you ever listen to anything by J. A. Huss again?
Maybe
What does Sienna Beckman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Accents I guess, her performance was good, but mired by awful plot
Do you think Clutch needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Probably not.
Any additional comments?
Nope
The protagonist is foul-mouthed, cigar-chomping, kick** military sniper whose father just died. She is on the run from her own emotion (after the funeral) and then an avian, a winged alien. Throughout her journey, we come to learn much about her violent world, her disturbed past and begin to realize her bad attitude overshadows a few insecurities. There is a lot of action, although interspersed with some tedious data-loaded conversations. I think the next volume in the series will be greatly improved as hopefully the author will not feel compelled to repeat the voluminous information.
Despite, the occasional dull bit, the book is faced-paced romp through an intriguing universe. The big plus is Junco is not your typical teenage heroine. Highly recommend for any sci-fi fan tired of the usual teenage angst-ridden worlds of vampires, werewolves and fae.
The narrator does a good job with the various characters.
Due to the language, not recommended for a young adult audience.

Junco is complex. Her relationship with Tier the Avian is intense. The world that the drama is alternative, but very believable. I had read the book before I listened. I has a heads up that it is violent and bloody__but never gratuitous. It fits the world. I don't want to say more and spoil it.
I enjoy a narrative that when a voice is flat as stated in the book that it how it is played. the male voices are distinct which is a good trick for a women performer. I just bought the next two in the series just before I wrote this review.
Enjoy. You are in for a trip.

What made the experience of listening to Clutch the most enjoyable?
besides the story itself or the writer of who I'm a huge fan... I loved hearing all the names I may not pronounce correctly
What was one of the most memorable moments of Clutch?
Learning Junco's back story once I heard that I Was Hooked
What does Sienna Beckman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Hearing the audio makes you feel like your there.. I think you get the true emotions in audio
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I loved this book it's filled so much action, a bit of romance, and one kick a** girl discovering who she is
Any additional comments?
I’m a H U G E fan of JA Huss writing I have read everything she has written but this series. I’ve never really read anything sci-fi before not really into sci-fi tv series you get my point. I kept telling myself I need to read this series so I bought the eBook & audio. It didn’t take me to long to get into the story, the characters, typical JA Huss style suck you and leave you questioning everything and wanting More.
Junco “I’m the scariest b*tch on the block” she may confused about a few things, but she can fight, she’s the one you want on your side, you don’t want her against you. She’s fearless.
“I’m your hero, I’m your hero, I’m your hero, I’m your hero, I’m your hero.”
Tier is just... You really need to experience him yourself.
I wish I would have started this series sooner. I found something different that I really enjoyed.

What an amazing story! Loved Junco and Tier. The narrator was fantastic. I hope she narrates the rest of the series. Cannot wait to start the next book in the series to find out what happens to Junco next. I highly reccomend this story if you like sci fi, action and suspense!
