Summary

The gates have opened the way to a thousand new worlds, and the rush to colonise has begun. Settlers looking for a new life stream out from humanity's home planets. Illus, the first human colony on this vast new frontier, is being born in blood and fire. Independent settlers stand against the overwhelming power of a corporate colony ship with only their determination, courage, and the skills learned in the long wars of home. Innocent scientists are slaughtered as they try to survey a new and alien world.

James Holden and the crew of his one small ship are sent to make peace in the midst of war and sense in the heart of chaos. But the more he looks at it, the more Holden thinks the mission was meant to fail. And the whispers of a dead man remind him that the great galactic civilisation which once stood on this land is gone. And that something killed them.

Cibola Burn is the exhilarating fourth novel in the New York Times best-selling Expanse series, following the Hugo-nominated Leviathan Wakes, Caliban's War, and Abaddon's Gate.

Wonderful book, on par with the rest of the series

I enjoyed this one as much as the other Expanse novels and the narration by Jefferson Mays is still amazing. No complaints here!

Engrossed throughout

Great story, can't wait for the next. Probably worth getting Netflix for the series when I've finished listening.

The expanse just gets better.

This book of the expanse expands the story and shows the consequences of the event in previous book.

Not too pleased

It never ends well to change narrator mid story. I suggest reading the actual bookinstead.

Very high quality

These expanse books ooze quality in both the writing and the narration. Tthere's a lot of sci fi in the world but not a lot of great sci fi so the Expanse series are a welcome addition to the genre - looking forward to grabbing the next book in this series, the overall plot is really gripping.

Wild west in space

Frontier world, frontier justice, corporate and racist asshat with guns, lots of tension and angry stares with implied and spoken threats. Oh, and a few murders.

The one thing that breaks that is the atmosphere of imminent cataclysmic change, and only the scientist (who has a crush on Holden, because of courseshe has) realizes it. Her perspective is interesting when she is not too traumatized to function. Speaking of which, that goes for Prax's old friend, practically all of the book.

Havelock is a racist cop until he realizes "Oh shit, I am a racist cop" and turns into Bull from the last book.

The intermissions with the Investigator are the highlights until the epilogue, where Avasarala steals the show with ease. It reaches out, it reaches out, it reaches out.

The story continues...

Action packed sci fi with a few surprises along the way. Looking forward to Nemesis Games.
