Summary

The Wizards Guild has been shattered by a coup and, in the uproar, Geralt was seriously injured. The Witcher is supposed to be a guardian of the innocent, a protector of those in need, a defender against powerful and dangerous monsters that prey on men in dark times. But now that dark times have fallen upon the world, Geralt is helpless until he has recovered from his injuries.

While war rages across all of the lands, the future of magic is under threat and those sorcerers who survive are determined to protect it. It's an impossible situation in which to find one girl - Ciri, the heiress to the throne of Cintra, has vanished - until a rumour places her in the Niflgaard court, preparing to marry the Emperor. Injured or not, Geralt has a rescue mission on his hands.

This is the third of the Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. Read by Peter Kenny.

Very much the middle of a Saga!

I love these books, but this suffers from very little being able to happen. the story is still good and there are nice moments, but little in the way of satisfaction. it feels like story that has to be told to get to the end of the overarching story.

Another cool part of the Witcher saga

I'm loving every bit of this - the setting, the plot, the characters and the voice-acting. The text lends itself very well to being performed.

Not my favourite of the story but well told.

Narrator was excellent, book drags a little in the middle but great ending. Would only recommend if had read/listened to earlier in the series.

A Fiery Read

A slow start after the cliffhanger from Time of Contempt - but still a very good sequel! Great new characters, and another wonderful performance by Peter Kenny. On to the Tower of Swallows! :)

Twists of fate

great narrator, kept guessing as destiny and war turns the world upside down as Geralt seeks Ciri, providing another reason to hate portals atleast, few twists and turns as the time for Neutrality has long passed.

My favorite out of the saga so far!

The characters, the way the story unravels, leaves you wondering while listening attentively..
Out of the 5 I've read, this one I think was my favorite. The new characters introduced here captured my attention and, as someone who played The Witcher 3 before starting the books, provided much needed context

With a lisp

Everybody lisps with a scottish (?) accent.
Though Kenny grows on you... So 3 instead of 1!
