Summary

After losing everything he owns, forester Will Scarlet embarks on a search for none other than King Raven, whose exploits have already become legendary. After fulfilling his quest - and proving himself a skilled and loyal companion - Will joins the heroic archer and his men.

Now, however, Will is in prison for a crime he did not commit. His sentence is death by hanging - unless he delivers King Raven and his band of cohorts.

Scarlet continues Stephen R. Lawhead's riveting saga that began with the novel Hood, which relocated the legend of Robin Hood to the Welsh countryside and its dark forests. Steeped in Celtic mythology and the political intrigue of medieval Britain, Lawhead's trilogy conjures up an ancient past and holds a mirror to contemporary realities.

Amazing Performance

Any additional comments?

This story is very engaging and a fun listen. The narrator does an amazing job! He is good at changing his voice for each character and keeps it interesting.

Excellent continuation of the Hood series.

I read the series over a year ago. I wanted share the story with my son while we commute back and forth to work so I purchased the audable version. I'm enjoying just as much listening as reading. I highly recommend as a must read / listen. Excellent twist on the Robin Hood story.

Good second installment in the series

Readers should bear in mind that this series is aimed at a young adult audience, though it can be enjoyed by older audiences as well. I found this book to be mostly enjoyable, though I dropped a star due to it dragging in a few places. For most of the book the story is told as a story being told by Will Scarlet to his captor. I like this set up as it has you curious as to how things got the way they were. Then the story catches up to the “present” and the two storylines come together. The ending sets up the third book of the trilogy but seemed a little unrealistic to me. Still, this is a book well worth reading.

Better than book 1

This book had marked improvements on the first. The story, as told from the perspective of Will Scarlet, was much more engaging and interesting. The introduction of a love interest for Scarlet was welcome even if poorly handled. The archery contests between Scarlet and Brand were anticlimactic at best when at least one of them should have been a high point of the story. Several points in the story, while well told, could not have been known to Scarlet and since he narrated the whole book were out of place. On the other hand, they were an integral part of the story and had to be told. The conclusion, while totally expected was still enjoyable to hear. For his part, the narrator did an excellent job reading and maintained consistency with the characters between the books. I did not notice any mistakes in the reading. All in all I definitely consider this book worth my time and look forward to the next one when I get it.

Great Story Made Hours of Driving Fly By

I have enjoyed Lawhead's books for years! This was no exception, and I eagerly look forward to listening to Book 3...Tuck.

Amazing

This is the second book of the King Raven series. I enjoyed it as I enjoyed the first. The only thing against it was that they're are sections written in first person which through me off for a bit. I can't wait to see how the concluding book unfolds.

Very well done

Even better than Hood, I'd say. The reader is much better as well. If you have read Hood then it's definitely worth it to keep reading
