Story
A most-willing beauty wants to be the perfect wife - with everything that entails - to her brave and handsome new groom, but an outrageous series of mishaps seems to get in their way.
Summary
Lord Derek Malory is the highest bidder - a dashing rakehell from a family of charming London rogues. Enthralled by the lovely young woman with shining eyes and dark hair, he purchases her to be his mistress, unaware of the true worth of his prize. He never imagined that this woman he so frivolously acquired would be blessed with all the attributes he was looking for in a wife - grace, wit, intelligence, as well as beauty. He certainly never expected to fall in love.

Wonderfully written
Beautifully read and well worth the price paid. A story of intimacy and trust, only received on the path to ruin for a young woman who tries to do the best for her family and younger sister through selling herself in a house of Eros. The passion and love that flare through a series of her (well meant) lies, and a jealous lord that is determined to have her for himself in any twisted way he can, show through the story in passion, lust and friendships that determine where and with who Kelsie finally ends up. Brilliant.

Something Different
I read/listened to all of the Mallory books. I have to say that this one is a bit darker than the others. Unlike the other stories where the heroine is rescued, this time she is taken by a truly sick and demented person. If it weren't a Lindsey novel, I would wonder if she was going to make it out alive.
The reader is also different which takes some getting used to. He is not bad, just different.

Excellent book
I read the Malory novels out of order so I read this book last. I love the series and this one was definitely not a disappointment! Derek is as loveable as all of her other male characters. I loved listening to the way he obviously adored Kelsey. The narrator really bothered me though. He made all the men sound ridiculous, especially Anthony and James, and he made Rosilyn sound like Mother Goose. Still loved the book though.

Horrible Narrator...ruined the book for me
I've listened to most of the Mallory books and while the regular narrator has annoying habits that had begun to grate on my nerves, I'm very disappointed in the narrator of this book. His voice in regular reading mode is pleasant, but his voices are horrible. All of the men sound so haughty and dispassionate I can't seem to even like Derek. The other Mallory family voices are just as snooty sounding...I don't even like James and Anthony in this book and they are my favorite Mallorys. Pity I think I would have liked the book with Laural Merlington as the narrator and I had just written a review about how annoying I was beginning to find Merlington and wished for a different narrator. Be careful what you wish for...

Beautiful story terrible narrator
Another slam dunk for Miss Lindsey in the Mallory Anderson series. It was a pleasure reading this book again a decade later. Note for the new reader: I suggest you read the actual book as I hate to say that the narrator for this particular title is terrible. It's most unfortunate that the narrator assumed that pretentiousness and snobbery should be conveyed in his dialect when speaking for not only the main hero but also former main Heroes. I don't believe he did his work in reading Miss Lindsay's previous books as oddly enough he managed to give Percy a rather charming and charismatic voice given what we know about his character. This narration really and truly detracts from the beautiful romance and storyline within which includes a captivating and daring rescue from a depraved sexual deviant so beware - trigger warning. But please note there is a satisfying twist for the reader. I still strongly recommend this series including this book which has been a favorite for years.

Good story, distracting narrator
I will have to agree with other reviewers. Though this was a good story overall, the narrator was distracting. He made the characters sound so annoying. At one point I did want to just skip this book all together.

Just OK
This book really didn't do anything for me. The characters are kind of bland, and the idle lifestyle and snobbery portrayed by the Mallory family in this story was a bit annoying. I've read other books in this series (such as Jeremy's story in "A Loving Scoundrel") that were much more enjoyable.

a farce
An unbelievable regency romp. If you're a romance writer you should stick to that genre. The "crime' was unbelievable and the evil caricatures of the bad guys were ludicrous.
As described by others, the narrator has a pleasant speaking voice but when it came to his characters, it was abysmal. The men all sounded like buffoons and as for the women, I kept hearing the Little Britain boys saying "I'm a lady! That's what I am, a lady!"

Another fantastic Malory story and great narrator!
I loved this story! The main girl was strong considering the position she was put in and held her head high. I loved the relationship between her and Derek! I also loved how you got to hear more from the whole family, including Jason's love life. You will read a lot of negative reviews about the narrator and everyone has their own opinion, but I LOVED HIM! I thought he did a great job with the emotions, the comedic timing, and different characters. He is a man, so his female voices don't sound perfectly feminine, but that is no different than a female narrator doing male voices. I think so many listeners expect it to be like listening to a movie where there are many actors, both female and male, but like most audio books, it only has one narrator, so they have to try their best to do the opposite sex voices and I think he did a fantastic job! I would definitely listen to more books narrated by him.
