The edge of the known world is a place of raw, vibrant beauty—but soon it will become the bloodiest of battlefields—in this thrilling grimdark adventure.

Simmering with the pain of loss, the warrior known as He-Dog and his silent, disfigured companion Chop are the last two survivors of the fallen city of Foust. Pursued by ruthless beastmen, former slaves of the Zuthenian Empire, they fight to stay alive in the unforgiving land of Big Rock. Their only hope: travel across the ocean to the mysterious jungle island of the Sanjou—a place untouched by time—following whispers of an unfathomable treasure. But they are not alone.

Physically and emotionally scarred by recent battles and still mourning the loss of his brother Balless, He-Dog carries a weary determination to survive. Can he and Chop overcome their inner demons and unite against a relentless enemy? In a world ravaged by violence and despair, they will need to become . . . savage.

From the author of the Mountain Man and Breeds series comes the epic second chapter of the adventure that began with White Sands, Red Steel.

End was a little bit disappointing. The build up was good but then seemed to finish quickly.

John Lee was a good narrator.

I absolutely love this author and he's done it again! I'm sure you could get a series of books just from each book, I found this one to be a fantastic listen.
John lee is as always brilliant and the characters have so much about them that you are rooting for them all.
this series was my 2nd favorite to 131 days but by the end of it I'm thinking it's one of the most satisfying stories with a great ending that I've listened to.
It would go on to another book or be left with the perfect ending .... I can't rate this highly enough!!

Favorite book yet!

I'm generally a big fan of Keith and I love his writing style and the worlds and characters he creates. This is a completely now story building on HeDog and Chop. I mean, chronologically it picks up exactly where book 1 left off, but there are no Dogbeasts. It is in new place with all the rest of the cast being new. I loved the book and narration was also excellent.

I'm hoping for book 3 but, even if not, HeDog is left at a better place than book 1, so...

Took a while but the sequel was worth it

Both books in the series gave me as much listening joy as the mountain man series which is about as high a praise as I could ever give.
