About this listen

“A ‘World’s Fittest Santa’ contest? Please tell me you’re joking."

My store manager is in fact not joking.

All I want for Christmas this year is to finally quit my job and figure out what the hell I’m doing with my life. Instead, here I am, auditioning sexy, shirtless men in fake white beards so hundreds of horny mall shoppers can sit on their laps.

A dream come true for some women, I’m sure.

For me? This is my personal nightmare.

As a former professional dancer, my days of excessive exercise and counting calories are behind me. The last thing I need is a Santa with a six-pack.

But that is exactly what I get when my instant nemesis is crowned our winner, and I’m promoted to his personal “Santa Handler.”

Santa is supposed to be ancient and generous and kind. This guy is young. And arrogant. And obtuse. Case in point: this is a man who regularly boasts about going “balls deep into Christmas.” Basically, he is everything I hate about the fitness industry tied up in one glistening, muscle-bound package.

So why am I fantasizing about unwrapping him to see what’s underneath?

Santa Has a Six-Pack is a balls-to-the wall enemies-to-lovers Christmas romcom from USA Today Bestselling Author Erin Mallon featuring:

· A grumpy/sunshine couple (he’s the sunshine to her grump!)

· Weeeeeeeird workout scenes

· A body-positive hero who falls for her first

· Steamy workplace shenanigans

What a entertaining and positivity affirming addition to any holiday reading list. Erin Mallon's grasp of the rom com genre is top notch, she manages to flawlessly weave together emotion, great characters and festivity. She handles sensitive, highly emotive subjects with such grace and empathy. Those subjects aren't there as 'a tick box exercise', they are an intrinsic part of the story of Penny and Matt.
This is a Christmas story where Christmas is (everywhere) throughout the story, the actual backbone of it, but it isn't obnoxiously in your face or saccharinely sweet with every cliché.
Both Penny and Matt have well developed back stories which brings depth to the story as they are explored.
Matt positivity is infectious and the way he is her champion and is happy to just be her friend is refreshing. Penny's sass is on point & her vulnerability is authentic.
When Matt first takes Penny to meet his mum, in the memory care facility, the way Penny goes along her presumption is (touching and) perfect. How Matt reacts at Penny's parents party... partner goals!

Erin is my favourite female narrator. I would listen to her read the encyclopedia & enjoy it. Her voice elevates words off the page, but even more so when she is narrating her own words, it seems intimate. Jason Clarke as Matt was an amazing choice. His voice complements Erin's immaculately. His narration of Matt's audition piece was hilarious. They just work so well together. I'm loving this duet.

Erin Mallon has the awesome skill of taking serious situations/topics and showing the lighter/funny side. The story was a funny and sweet page turner. The writing and narration performances in this book were hilarious as well as touching and sweet. I couldn't help but cheer on both the MMC Matt and FMC Penny, they were such lovable characters.
Erin and Jason Clarke are two of my top favorite narrators, so a good performance was expected. The characters Erin wrote were brought to life so perfectly, I am in awe of these talented actors. They embodied the characters flawlessly. Even though Jason is awesome in any role he plays, I love when he embodies characters in a comedic role because he seriously owns it. The multi-talented Erin Mallon can do no wrong in my book, love her!

4.5 worthy stars!

🔳 I don't like rating, because I prefer to write what felt like reading a book. Not if the language was correct (which here it was), not if it had plot twists that surprised me (which here there were not), not whether they tried the whole Kama Sutra and more (which here they didn't) but mostly whether I felt good about it, laughed, cried, swooned.. and I had all that.

🔳 This book took me out of the bad mood I was. I didn't even want to decorate this year. I love Penny's grumpiness, the one that is not totally hers but it just came slowly over the years. I loved the excitement both of them have with the things they like, from Christmas ornaments to music to the way they spend their time. I love it when an author makes me like a sunshine character like Matt.

🔳 Ms. Mallon's humor in the little things as I refer to them, it is one of my favourite of its kind. Give me little fun details, like the names of the accounts she thought, nicknames, the ornaments.. I was smiling a lot. "MistleHo" is what I will call it from now on. She made JC to rap. !!

🎧 Erin Mallon is on my top male voices narrator lists. I love it when the heroin has rants and emotional ups and downs because she is so good at it.

🎧 Mr. Clarke is my most listened to narrator.. 48 with this one. It has been a while to listen to such a goofy, fun, puppy like, full of joy, cinnamon roll hero from him and he does that equally well. The couple of speeches with his mother though, the emotion he puts in his performances... watery eyes. He can do 'hurt' without extra flourishes. Leaves me in awe in how it affects me.

🔳 I kept feeling there was something real about this story. Like it really happened and the author just added a few things.. Reading her backstage pass after the end it made sense why I felt like this.

🔳 My first Erin Mallon book. Not my last.
