Summary

In the year 2060, sophisticated investigative tools can help catch a killer. But there are some questions even the most advanced technologies cannot answer...
Harlan Coben says, "J.D. Robb's In Death novels are can't-miss pleasures." Her latest is no exception, as the priest at a Catholic funeral mass brings the chalice to his lips - and falls over dead...

When Detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas confirms that the consecrated wine contained potassium cyanide, she's determined to solve the murder of Father Miguel Flores, despite her discomfort with her surroundings. It's not the bodegas and pawn shops of East Harlem that bother her, though the neighborhood is a long way from the stone mansion she shares with her billionaire husband Roarke. It's all that holiness flying around at St. Christobal's that makes her uneasy.
A search of the victim's sparsely furnished room reveals little - except for a carefully hidden religious medal with a mysterious inscription, and a couple of underlined Bible passages. The autopsy reveals more: faint scars of knife wounds, a removed tattoo - and evidence of plastic surgery suggesting "Father Flores" may not be the man his parishioners thought. Now, as Eve pieces together clues that suggest identity theft, gang connections, and a deeply personal act of revenge, she hopes to track down whoever committed this unholy act. Until a second murder - in front of an even larger crowd of worshippers - knocks the whole investigation sideways.

Loved listening to this.

AUDIBLE REVIEW 23
Loved listening to this even though I remembered the whole plot.
Good to have Ariel make an appearance and her spectacular gift giving Eve the kick to sort out her current case was fun.
BOOK REVIEW
An extremely sad and complicated tale of murder, greed and patience for the long con, with a touch of cold case thrown in.
Cannot say I was sorry about the main death that kicked this book off but I did feel for those innocents who were lost.
Amusing that the one Lino loved was the one he shouldn’t trust. Poetic justice really.
There is a lot of communication and at times discord among our heroic group. But religion, murder, beliefs and ones own personal perspective often cause discord on the subject of religion.
Found it funny that after 27 books, Eve is suddenly wearing a white cotton bra instead of her support tank tops.
I have owned most of these books in paperback for years but now have them all in eBook format, so I am rereading this series once more in order, updating and replacing missing reviews.
Even knowing what is in the future, it is absolutely no hardship to reread this series and I am really enjoying how all the characters are growing and changing.

Very twisty

This story was very twisty, a priest is murdered why? Who? We end up going back 17 years to a bombing in the old neighbourhood. I must admit the story took that many twists and turns that I did get a little confused at times and that is why I only gave the book 4 stars. The way that the story twists and turns it must be incredible to have that kind of imagination. How the narrator keeps all the different voices in line I don't know but it sure is an amazing job that she has done as there are so many side characters in this book a lot more that usual.
