About this listen

Koba is a bushgirl, a hunter-gatherer from an ancient living culture. She’s a survivor.

She escapes death from white hunters when her family is murdered and fends for herself in a hostile land.

Now, she’s in the greatest danger she’s ever faced: She’s falling for a White boy in Apartheid South Africa, where love across racial divides is brutally punished.

Book one of this fast-paced saga introduces a unique character into romance-writing, offering listeners a fascinating glimpse into a forgotten way of life and into recent black history.

A very difficult read at times but a very enlightening insight into life in South Africa You see the story from a number of perspectives. Prejudice is so ingrained it takes a strong person to see the injustice, the wrong and speak out. I enjoyed the narration. Despite not understanding all the terminology and language , I followed the story easily and found the clicks strangely soothing . Highly recommend this read.

The power of love and the power of hate stood out most for me in this wonderful story. It was both beautiful and tragic and kept me gripped from beginning to the end. Mostly it gave me hope that through adversity and overcoming and respecting differences in cultures, we could all live together and alongside each other in harmony.
