Summary

“Padre Pio was and is a man of hope. Throughout his life, in the midst of the most difficult trials, he always looked to the future with a spirit of optimism, faith, and love.”

Canonized on June 16, 2002, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968) was a Capuchin monk and mystic whose life was marked with miracles and wonders, but who said that his only desire was “to be a poor friar who prays.” In this intimate biography, you will see the results of this humble Capuchin's prayers and discover for yourself the source of his great hope. This updated edition contains five new chapters covering the years between beatification and canonization, St. Pio’s continued work in people’s lives, and the devotion of St. John Paul II to this extraordinary saint of our day.

Faith in God waning? This book is your 999 call.

Despite 10hrs+ of listening time, I’ve listened to the book several times. A testament to honest and non-judgmental style of Renzo Allegri’s writing and immersive narration by Douglas James.

The biography of St Padre Pio brings to life Jesus words that we can do more than He did while He was physically here on earth and this includes reliving His Passion, suffering, perseverance, miracles and loving relationship with God the father. This is a story or rather, a testimony of faith, love, hope and the impossible - a lot of the impossible and that we, even in the modern age, are still capable of such faith, hope, love and the impossible through a loving relationship with God Almighty.

Great Book about great man.

Great Book about great man who all his life, every day kept helping other People, had to fight with the devil, church misunderstanding and with his illnesses. One thing - some titles are different in audiobook and in app chapter list.

Occasional mispronunciations; otherwise awesome

This is a fantastic book! Well worth the reading time. Best book on Padre Pio I have come across yet. Just wish these readers would check up on all pronunciations before they begin!

A great introduction to this wonderful modern day Saint!

I’ve listened to this book from beginning to end over the course of five days. Without a doubt, it has intrigued me, strengthened my faith, introduced me to my new favorite Saint. Undoubtedly, I’ll listen again. The narrator was superb and the author provided both a strong narrative of the life of Padre Pio but excellent reporting and analysis of many of the controversial issues that dissenters go after.

Interesting but has some issues

I found the book a little clunky, though I suspect things were lost in translation. The author has a tendency to jump around a lot. I think he was trying to write thematic chapters, but he jumped back and forth in time and it could get confusing. The narrator was fine.

That being said, if even half of this book is true, it’s utterly fascinating. Even just the medical cures that doctors deemed impossible is enough to make for interesting reasons to believe.

Human's are fallible, St. Pio was not. Praise God!

The humility of this great human being is unprecedented in our modern lives today. To know St. Pio's life was a passion and the devotion he holds to Our Lord is truly inspirational. To be obedient to God was the best message I could receive from the life of this Saint. Very informative book for those who choose Christ. God bless.
