About this listen

A fresh, fierce and sharply funny YA debut about breaking taboos and learning how to cope when life literally goes to shit. Perfect for fans of Sex Education, Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth and Bryony Gordon.

When sixteen-year-old Freya collapses and wakes up to discover a surgeon has given her a temporary ostomy bag, her dreams of the perfect summer go down the toilet. Suddenly, it's goodbye, Marbella and hello, poo camp when her parents send her to a specialist camp in the Scottish Highlands for children with bowel disease.

With the help of her campmate Chris, Freya slowly learns to live with her bag, but, back in the real world, she is determined to get her old life back and prove to her classmates that she's more than just 'Shitbag' by winning back her ex-boyfriend, Lockie.

But as Freya's feelings for Chris grow, shit is sure to hit the fan, and Freya could end up with only her bag by her side ...

Critic reviews

This bold, brilliantly funny book is the best YA novel I've read this year. Xena Knox is one to watch! (Cat Clarke, author of Girlhood)
This unflinching story of disgust, humiliation and hard-won wins educated me in the most entertaining of ways. (Sue Wallman, author of Lying About Last Summer)
Full of sass, humour, embarrassing moments and something all teens will love. Xena's characters feel SO real, you'll be hooked from the first page. (A. M. Dassu, author of Boy, Everywhere)

Very enjoyable and captivating. Insightful and amusing. A great read for all teenagers, and adults too!

What a "flangingly" wild ride with Freya, who is a bitingly funny, smart-arsed teen. She wakes up one day with the one bag no girl would ask for. Her journey from surgery to camp and back to school is such a brilliant read, with dramas and laughs throughout.
Well worth a credit for anyone looking for a feel-good page turner that isn't sickly sweet, but that keeps you gripped from start to finish.
It might be aimed at teens and pre-teens, but I'm an adult and loved every minute of it.

6-star funny and charming book

I wish I was given this in hospital to read instead of the paperwork that only pictured elderly people. Had me laughing out loud

I loved this book! The storyline picks up quickly, but still tells you everything you need to know, and I loved hearing about Freya, she has such a brilliant sense of humour! The reading was also amazing, the performer has such a great voice, and they read it at the perfect pace!

Awesome! ✨
