Summary

The irrepressible, audacious defence barrister Horace Rumpole continues to juggle the vagaries of the law, the ambiguities of crime, and the contradictions of the human heart. The much loved stories were adapted from his scripts for the hugely popular TV series of the same name.

wonderfully written tales of the Old Bailey!

bill Wallis is the THE Rumpole! wonderfully written and expertly narrated. Each story provides at least a few chuckles, especially when Rumpole runs up against she who must be obeyed ..

Always enjoy Rumpole.

Great stories, as always. Thoroughly enjoyed listening. Only drawback was the narrator, who tended to clip his words somewhat..and made for difficulty catching everything....Did prefer Leo Kern....

A superb reading of this book.

A brilliant rendition, almost as brilliant as Rumpole himself- subtle, humourous and finely judged.

Delightful

If, like me, you are a lover of John Mortimer's delightful creation then you will enjoy this. And Bill Wallis is the best of the numerous narrators of Rumpole,s adventures.

Vintage Rumpole

This collection finds our magnificently shambolic legal eagle in fine form, refusing, as usual, all attempts to reform his ways, whether in the matter of soft furnishings, diet or attitude towards the 'old darlings' on the bench! Bill Wallis is, as ever, superb!

Classic Rumpole

Clever stories, well told! I only hope that if I ever need a defence lawyer, I can find a Rumpole!

I want to add…

Audible isn’t cheap so why do they make such a pig’s arsenal of the chapters? It’s virtually impossible to find the start of a story. And this is ALL the books. Shambles.

Chapter placement ridiculous

This is a book of short stories about 1 hour each but the "Chapters" are placed as close to an hour as possible. This results in "chapters" finishing with only one or two minutes left of the the story (in one case it cuts out half way through a paragraph). How hard is it to go a minute or two further and put the break between the stories?

Lazy, incompetent and inconsiderate production editor.

Good story telling

The stories on this audio book are varied and very enjoyable. They were great to listen to as I walked the dog

laugh out loud funny. well read and with just the right inflection. captures the rediculousness of the law and the word pictures of the judges and queer customers and villians are hilarious.
