Summary

The death of a young Pakistani bride in Glasgow gets Rosie Gilmour's antennae twitching. She is sure this tragic accident was anything but - but she is not prepared for where her investigation will take her....

Rosie has her hands full navigating the sensitivities of this case - the girl's grieving family and the tensions between the white and Pakistani communities in the city - when she is contacted by two prostitutes in serious trouble. One of their clients has died on the job, and they've gone on the run - with his briefcase. The briefcase contains dozens of rough diamonds, and now some thoroughly brutal people are on their trail.

On the surface this has nothing to do with the death of the young girl. But Rosie has spent years looking beneath Glasgow's surface into its murky depths, and if anyone can discover the connection between one girl's forced marriage and a ring of diamond smugglers, it's her.

The plots and characters are really good in these Anna Smith novels, I just cannot put them down.

I have only one small gripe, and that is the amount of use of the f*** word, it does seem appropriate as used in the story, but it is tooooo much, and I even found myself saying 'Oh for f***s sake while driving - only to hear a sharp intake of breath from my 8 yr old grandson in the back seat!! I had a bit of explaining to do - and a touch of 'Well granny really shouldn't have said that ...... '

This story held my attention throughout, it was frightening and dangerous but the characters are well drawn, the plot was good and it was well read. I like this series very much.

This series just gets better and better. The only books I have read that can make me laugh, and feel a whole range of emotions, while hoping Rosie finds her happy ever after.
