Summary

Can poverty and privilege find a loving compromise?

Alexandre Bonfils, a rich and spoiled second son, is tired of being ignored and decides to help when the family’s exclusive wine business is in trouble. Going undercover in the warehouse, he loves the adventure - and the chance to be close to the sassy and sexy manager, Tate Somerton.

Tate is hardworking and financially struggling, bringing up his siblings on his own. A suspected saboteur at work is his latest challenge, but now he also has a clueless, though very attractive, new intern. There’s an immediate spark between the ill-matched couple, until a shocking accident cuts short Alex’s amateur sleuthing.

While recovering in the generous care of Tate and his family, will Alex realize what belonging really means? Passion and pride come together to fight for the company they’re both committed to preserving, but can a personal bond remain when the dust settles?

Cute romance with good narrator

I started Romancing the Undercover Millionaire hoping for a more lighthearted story and to try a new to me narrator. In many ways, that’s what I got. The story starts off quickly and I was immediately intrigued by the idea of Alex acting as a sort of undercover boss for the family business in an attempt to get back into his father’s good graces. I enjoyed the vibrancy of the characters, especially Tate’s family, and I liked the quick tempo. I also liked the narrator. His rhythm and style fit with the novel and his accent made the audiobook a fun listen.

Unfortunately, some of my early enthusiasm wanted as the book progressed. While I liked the plot of trying to uncover the warehouse saboteur, the execution felt off- more nonchalant than warranted at times. I also felt the story and romance drug during the middle and I found myself losing interest, especially with Alex’s identity revelation being decidedly anticlimactic. Things did pick up toward the end, buoyed by Alex’s humor and Tate’s dry responses to his silliness as their relationship furthered. Overall, I’d consider Romancing the Undercover Millionaire a cute romance featuring a good narrator that’s hampered by some speed bumps. If you’re looking for a simpler love story, this could be a good choice for a relaxing listen.

Surprise Investigation

Overall I enjoyed the story and the narration was great. I started with the ebook version and just had trouble getting started on it. So I picked up the audio version when it came out. This story seems to take a really long time to get to any really action. As I reader you can see what where things should be heading so I was ready to move on before the story did. The characters are likable. Alex is trying to find where he fits in with his family. In some ways he has been sold short but he has also brought it on himself, too. Finding out how hard it was to work was probably a great thing to help him grow up. Tate has a strong sense of family and has given up a lot to care for those he loves. They both share a desire for the best for the company. This story has a lot of fun moments and frankly the grandma steals the show.
