Summary

As her first London Season looms before her, the thought of the impending social whirl fills Daphne Lancaster's timid heart with dread. She hasn't her sisters' beauty nor their talent for conversing easily. Even her family's enviable connections may not be enough to prevent disaster. But Daphne's misery turns to surprised delight when the first event of her Season brings an unexpected visitor to her door - James Tilburn, whose tender kindness stole her heart in her youth. When the handsome young gentleman expresses his desire to court her, Daphne is elated. Their feelings for each other quickly grow, and it appears that, much to Daphne's disbelief, her happily ever after is within reach.

Yet nothing is as it seems. The couple find themselves caught in a tangled web of greed and deceit, leaving James and Daphne to determine whether they are willing to risk everything for true love.

Lovely 3rd installment

I enjoyed this story immensely. I love the Duke of Kielder and was glad to see he and Persephone were such a big part of this book. Daphne was delightful, and James was wonderful. this was a very entertaining read/listen. There were several parts I laughed out loud. My only hold up was the narrator. It took me probably more than half the book to get used to her voice. I didn't like how she made Persephone sound like she was always laughing. In the end, I did get used to her and she did a good job.

Narration not Good

The lady had no idea how to narrate the Duke of Kielder. Always screaming in your ear!

Beautiful this story gives you hope and lifts the spirit!

This book is exactly what I needed to see me through my final project. I am so glad it is in audio format. The reader was fantastic. What a sweet story. I have loved all of Eden’s books but I think this one is in my top 5 favorites.

Great story! So so narration...

Fun follow up on the series. Other than some repetition of sentiments or phrases, a nice easy listen.
Narration: I don’t know... Maybe it’s just me, but the narrator just sounded too old for a story about two young people. I kept imaging someone in their mid-fifties rather than an 18yo girl and I really shouldn’t be imagining the narrator at all. I also tend to struggle with women doing men’s voices, so there’s that. She did great keeping the intonation and inflection masculine however they sounded kind of like ailing old men (scratchy, guttural voices??) or very haughty/conniving (granted some of the characters are...).

Good story, mismatched narrator

No criticism of these well-developed and interesting characters, nor of the writing and plot. There were the usual grammatical errors. However, was unable to listen to the audio book. The narrator was not able to disappear into the story. She was "off" enough to call attention to the mismatch. Could not listen. I read the ebook instead.

English romance read with an American accent-UGH!

I couldn't past the first sentence as soon as I realized it was read with an American accent. That's just wrong! Back it goes.

Loved it so much!

I am a huge Sarah Eden fan and this one was divine. It was so wonderful to go back to these treasured characters. I hope she writes about the rest of the family.
