Critic reviews

John Grisham has perfected the art of cooking up convincing, fast-paced thrillers
Leaves one eager for more
No one does it better than Grisham
A master storyteller
Sebastian Rudd is a kind of social justice warrior and Grisham uses him to take jabs at the legal system . . . all with a blunt, rude, gravelly poetic wise guy voice that makes Rudd come across as a kind of 21st-century Philip Marlowe.
Terrific . . . The biggest mystery that ROGUE LAWYER poses is how Grisham, at this stage in his long writing career, can still devise all these distinctive characters, tricky legal predicaments and roguishly cheating ways to worm out of them. It's one mystery we Grisham fans just want to appreciate, rather than solve.
Highly readable, thanks to Grisham's fast-moving narrative skills
The energy is sustained to the end
A riveting read . . . A very satisfying ending

I was massively disappointed with John Grisham's last book. I am a huge fan and have read/listened to them all, and I'm happy to say he's back to his best.

Really impressed after the last one

What did you like most about Rogue Lawyer?

The main character is fascinating. The reader can't help being drawn in to an unusual life style for a lawyer.

What did you like best about this story?

John Grisham doing what he does best. You really want to know what happens next.

Have you listened to any of Mark Deakins’s other performances? How does this one compare?

The narrator did a good job. It was easy to follow the twists and turns of the plot and keep track of the diverse characters,

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have loved to listen to it in one go. I would not have been bored. But life doesn't permit.

Grisham at his brilliant best.

Captivating crime book. Hope that this is the first of a series of books for the character of Sebastian Rudd as I was left wanting more. The narrator performs perfectly and this mixed with the perfect story keeps you hooked.

Brilliant read.

Grisham isn't everyone's cup of tea but for me, his best novels are fast paced, easy reading characterised by plausible plot lines and unexpected twists.

Rogue Lawyer is no exception - I was hooked after the 3rd chapter (they're short, most less than 10mins long). He creates an interesting anti-hero in Sebastian Rudd, the main protagonist, and the story moves on quickly enough that you shouldn't lose interest.

However, unlike Grisham's best, Rogue Lawyer is more like a series of short stories that sort of intersect, but not really. There are 6 "sections" in the book, each introducing new characters, and I was expecting him to wrap it all up in a grand finale. Not so much. I enjoyed it, but was left feeling a bit cheated that the plot line for the final chapters wasn't a little more sophisticated.

Not his best, but not bad

Excellent as expected and as always, delivered. This is the first John Grisham I've listened to rather than read myself and I was not disappointed. I will defiantly be listening to other John Grisham novels in the future.

Brilliant
