Thousands of miles away from the disaster, a call comes in the middle of the night. Families act, and react, and while panic spreads, the world keeps on spinning. Maybe a little slower, and perhaps with a teeny bit more of a tilt, but such things are a mere trifle to the existence of a planet. For the human inhabitants of this planet, though, the meteor's collision will have far-reaching effects as the impact creates ripples throughout their fragile existence.

Bryan Hardin just wanted to create a sanctuary in the country for his remaining family, a place to heal his wounded spirit as he struggles with survivor's guilt and approaching middle age. He's hardly the heroic type, but his family is going to need all of them to act like heroes if they are going to survive the spreading effects of the Rockfall.

I have read many of these books and found this very realistic. Worth a read and could see it happening.

Narrator was good and has a lot of 5 star reviews- if it’s too slow turn up the speed!

Enjoyable and realistic

At first I found the narrators voice too slow, monotone and irritating. Then "der" I turned the speed up which improved it no end. plus I got used to it. I thought the storyline was good and probably quite realistic. I liked the characters and that kept me interested. it was also very informative.

I got this book as part of the Plus Catalogue, but had bought the next two books before I finished the first one. I read a lot of dystopian fiction and my main complaints are always that: everything collapses within a week (usually within 48 hours); Governments are always corrupt and out for themselves; the bulk of the population simply ceases to exist - or dies conveniently off stage, and can therefore be ignored. This series of books does not do that.
Rockfall starts with the premise that a large meteor hits the Earth off the coast of China. It is large enough to destroy the Asian countries on the West of the Pacific Ocean, the Western United States on the wrong side of the Rockies including Hawaii. It is not large enough to kill mankind all at once, maybe not at all.
The damage done cripples the United States, but does not destroy it. The economy teeters, but is held in place. With America occupied and China effectively gone Russia decides to go for "Reunification" and reabsorb the old Soviet satellite states. Mexico also goes for a land grab of it's old empire.
This is the backdrop for the story that is then explored of the next three books (there is a fourth, but it is not available on Audible). It is well considered and carefully thought out. It explores all aspects of what makes a country, community and family function. There are baddies, who existed before Rockfall, but no Psychopaths with superpowers. You see the effect of trying to keep civilization ticking over as resources are gradually removed. The law is upheld - up to and including the buying and selling of land. The obtaining of title deeds is as important in protecting your family as having a large arsenal of guns and ammo. You see people pulling together, as society slowly unravels. People are as protective of their neighbours as they are of family. Empty properties abutting your land need to be filled with the right kind of people, otherwise they attract the wrong type. This is almost entirely contrary to every dystopian book I've ever read. The government carries on functioning. It continues to give disaster relief - it doesn't just disappear into a bunker and lock the gates.
The books move slowly, we are not even at the promised winter by the end of the third book. They held my interest and I am invested in the characters and want to find out what happens. While there are no Psychopaths with Superpowers there is a surprising amount of killing. While it is not one of those books written by someone who simply wishes to note all the guns they have ever, or would ever, own, There is a lot of talk about guns (a tedious amount to anyone listening outside the USA and has no idea what is being discussed).
This is a series for adults who have a passing interest in prepping, rather than thrill-seekers who want instant gratification.
I would recommend these books highly.

Nothing happens, just a lot of people talking to each other. I was expecting more.

I’m all for a good detailed build up, but I’ve had to give up half way through.

Over 6 hours in and barely anything of interest has happened.

This is made even harder as the narrator speaks so slow that a few times now I’ve stopped what I was doing to open the app and make sure I’ve not accidentally slowed the speed down.

Soooooooo slow.
