Summary

The ITV series Robin of Sherwood is generally considered to have been among the greatest adaptations of the legend, with its fantastic set of characters both traditional and new, as well as its twisting, turning, turbulent plot lines. This audiobook is one of an excellent range that adds even more depth to the Robin Hood universe, with each episode taking place close to the timeframe of the original TV show and featuring the characters we all know and love.

In this instalment - set between the third and fourth season of the TV series - we find the Merry Men without a proper leader, as Robin - after losing Marion to Holy Orders - spends his waking hours in an increasingly drunken state.

Abbot Hugo meanwhile has cleaned out the family coffers and secured a release for his brother, the sheriff, from King John’s prisons. This is granted on one condition - the sheriff pays a fine for every month that goes by without the capture of Robin Hood. Furthermore, Marion is harbouring a secret which may lead to the capture of Robin, a secret she isn’t aware the sheriff knows about as he plots his revenge on the outlaws....

A Return to Sherwood

The story is well written and the mood music is perfect, with a blend of Clannad and original music.

The narration is good, but it's a shame it's not a cast recording.

Enjoyable...!

It was lovely revisiting the world of Robin of Sherwood. and a huge bonus having Jason Connery as the narrator. I have, of course, watched the DVDs from time to time and it brought back many memories of the early eighties when I was in my early twenties. This story in itself was good though I felt a little more could have been added to it. I am a little indignant on Robin's behalf as she took away , albeit for the best of reason as she saw it, Robin's right to make his own decision. In the end they were both of one mind as regarded the wellbeing and future of their daughter. I hope Jason Connery will do more narrating in any future episodes; if there are anymore, that is . In the end it was hearing his voice that triggerd the memories !
