Summary
There are thousands of bounty hunters across the galaxy. Solid professionals that take jobs based on the credits the bounties afford. They follow the letter of the law so they can maximize those credits.
Licensed, bonded, legal.
Then there's Roak.
Deadly, unstoppable, invisible.
No criminal or military records. No files or folders with his name on them. No cybernetic implants to track. No proof he even exists except for a reputation for getting the job done. Roak is the bounty hunter called when someone is looking for the opposite of licensed, bonded, legal.
Now someone has ignored his reputation and made a very big mistake.
Double-crossed and left to die, Roak survives and sets out to exact vengeance and get paid what he is owed.
But he's not unreasonable.
While his fee may have just gone up, the bloody, brutal revenge is on the house.

Im a fan of the series and so picked this one up to help finish my collection , coming at it from the reverse order of listening i figured would be a bit boring but i actually liked how Roak started out and his ususal attitude of i want my chits was still very enjoyable.
For those starting then this is a great series to listen to as Wehrlen does very well and their is quite a lot of books out made into audios to enjoy.

Boring and poorly written and then child torture
Having listened through the start of the book I found the narrative to be undriven, repetitive and aimless. When I reached the part where the protagonist is being interrogated and, in an effort to make the supposedly stoic hero talk, the local police torture a young child in front of him and cut off the boys extremities while he screams I deleted the title and wrote this, my first ever review to advise staying away from this writers work in future. Thank you for the motivation, I will be seeking my refund now.
The only reason this poisonous drivel has been given one star is that the app won’t let me give it zero.

Space Opera meet the 1920's
I started listening this auibal this morning and could not stop till it ended and I do recommend this audible. The reason I said meets the 1920's is because have hit men and women, mafia bosses, bounty hunters with many types of aliens and AI's. The simple basic ideal boy meets girl, boy does a bounty job and does not get paid and bounty hunter get mad and starts a hunt killing anyone who tries to stop him except the girl. It is a fun filled ride with gun battles, rockets ships and like I said varies alien lifeforms.
So for a good time check this audiobook out it worth it.

"My flaws are still mine. I own them. I am them."
Any additional comments?
Risk is not a nice man, but then it doesn't pay to be nice in his line of work. A bounty hunter who lives only for his work, and the nastier, the better : "he only took the ones other bounty hunters refused" But he does have qualities beyond being a loner and superb killing machine. Mostly human, he doesn't depend on artificial upgrades, he keeps his promises, mostly, and pays his debts. He has friends, scattered, but good to call on, a sardonic sense of humour and amazing powers of recuperation. It goes without saying that he is also stubborn, quick witted, and phenomenal with guns, knives, hands and anything else within reach when he needs to defend himself: he doesn't believe in unecessasary killing. And he wants his money - the fee he earned when he delivered the remains of his latest quarry.
This book is his pursuit of his fee and all that happens along the way, a long journey through space and in duration. And of the people, and others, that get in his way. A full blown adventure thriller, it is violent, yes, but also humerous. Jake Bible is a master of imaginative scenarios, picture building in the mind. His attention to character building is also superb as, with just a few brief words, he converts them from shadows on a page to real living, if strange, beings. They are further brought to life by the excellent narration of Mr.Wehrein, whose distinctive slightly gravelly voice fully injects the sardonic humour and determination of both Roak himself and all of the other characters, be they adversaries or helpers. The voicing of a ship's AI. is especially delightful but my real favourite is another A.I., grateful to Roak for enabling him (it?) to evolve into a full human - no, don't ask.
Imaginative, well written, fun behind the swiftly administered violence, this is a series of delightful vignettes behind Roak's ongoing quest for his money. My thanks to the rights holder who gifted me a copy of Roak, via Audiobook Boom. It was really enjoyable and I look forward to hearing more books by Mr.Bible.

Dark, moody and brilliant.
I have to admit I was a little nervous coming into this one right from the start. It promised a lot of action and tension!
There were some great descriptions of the setting and of Roak. His character was blatant. Pay me or you'll suffer. But, when he was the one left suffering I was unsure as to what he was physically capable of.
Roak, is one of those characters you love to hate. He lives by simple rules and he does everything he can to keep on, keeping on. It takes a while to realise that he's not actually a bad man, he's just set in his ways, and does his job. Along his journey to get 'paid' Roak comes across some really cool characters. Some that you'll feel so sorry for and others you'll love to get their comeuppance.
Andrew, has just the right tone for this novel, deep, gritty and he totally has the right voices to pull off the different aliens along the way too. In his performance there was such humour, and I really enjoyed both the writing and acting. Great job.
I think my only quibble was I just wanted more, haha so I went to look for more work by Jake, :) and I do hope that Andrew gets to narrate some more.
I was given this book by the author/narrator without obligation for review via audiobook boom.

"Just pay me what you owe me"
4.5 out of 5 stars
I don't know why I can't shake this feeling. Roak reminded me of Guardians of the Galaxy, the main character had the same cocky demeanor while still getting the job done. The comparison stops at the main character, though, this was much bloodier and much more violent than that film.
Roak was a really enjoyable main character to follow around. He has his own style and does things for no-nonsense reasons. He gets the job done efficiently and as quickly as possible. He's a great bounty hunter who is self-admittedly a little broken.
The story itself was really enjoyable. The first part, the reader isn't really sure who Roak is or why he's doing the things he's doing. But after a little while, we quickly figure out who he is and what makes him tick. The cast of characters he meets along the way to getting paid range from completely insane to really enjoyable.
This was an intergalactic thrill ride with elements for a lot of different readers.
Andrew B. Wehrlen does a great job narrating this, allowing this fast-paced story to play out quickly. I really enjoyed his narration and will continue to support books narrated by him.
I was given a free copy of this book. It has not affected my review in any way.

Best Start to a Story in All the Seven Hells
I picked up a Roak book as a free promo listen some time ago and loved it. I mean, what's not to love. Roak is the quintessential lone wolf bad-ass gallivanting about the universe doing jobs and collecting his chits. He really wants everyone to believe that he cares for no one and nothing. Except that's not really what's at the core of his being.
This book is our first introduction to the scarred warrior and it's probably the darkest one in the series. I had started with Infinite Mayhem, which still kind of makes sense even without the back story. But I liked the characters so much that I wanted, actually needed, to hear the back story.
Some of my favorite characters don't appear in this book, but there is still plenty of action, adventure and Roak snark to go around.
Oh, and I love Andrew Wehrlen's narration. He is Roak to me and I would be very saddened if future books do not feature his talent.
If you like Clint Eastwood's man with no name or other antiheroes of that ilk, you'll like Roak. Give it a listen.

A space version of then movie Payback
Fun, short ride. If you know the movie Payback, this book is very, very close to the feeling and sentiment throughout that movie. Its still fun. Its not too heavy on the technology, so I didn't find myself nitpicking here or there...just accepted and went with the storyline. The ending worked for me and didn't have that marketing color that pervades a large number of authors.
Considering the length of the book, you might want to wait for a sale or such.

Unstoppable!!
Well, what a ride!! I honestly didn't know what to expect going into this because I didn't read any review before listening. What I didn't expect was to devour this and absolutely adore it. It was fun, action packed and unstoppable.
Roak was such an amazing character. Truly a bad ass with a heart of gold (well a little bit anyway). He is a bounty hunter, he will do what's needed to get the job done and get paid, but when his latest assignment is over, the man who hired him refuses to pay. Of course Roak can't have that, he did the job he was given so deserves to be paid, and what follows is one heck of a long, bloody battle to "Just pay me what you owe me".
I loved Roak's character. You don't really get a sense of who he is till you are knee deep in the story. At the start he comes across as a cocky, no nonsense, deadly man, but eventually you get to see who he really is, and it just made me like him more. He is cocky, brass and bold, but he is also honest, thoughtful and kind. He just want's to do his job and get paid, but double cross him and it's about to get real!!!
In all, this was an amazing read. Brilliantly written and executed, with characters that you can't help but love and an adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat, it's a must read!! I really hope we see more from Roak.
Andrew B. Wehrlen did a good job with the narration, he read the story well and was clear and concise. I just feel like he didn't have a lot of different tones for some of the characters, and there were some accents that were hard to listen to!

Not deadpool but still a merc with a mouth
Bible and Wehrlen are a powerful combination. I have numerous audiobooks written and narrated by this dynamic duo. They have never dissapointed. Be ready to be whisked away to an expanded universe that (if you have the other books) are familiar with. If they are new to you then this is a great spot to start and expand from. You will find honor, betrayal, acts of heroism, despicable bad guys, and much more. Space battles, bar fights, syndicates, AI's and so much more. Highly recommend. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I liked the story. I would give a sequel a chance. The narrator did a fine job. I will keep an eye on Jakes work. Hi John and Sarah.

Hard to Finish
I liked the idea for this book and enjoyed the beginning. (Spoiler Alert) But, as the main character went from place to place I had a hard time with the way so many characters were quickly killed off for no apparent reason. I soon found I didn't care what happened to any of them and had a hard time finishing the book. If this is a series, I will not read the next one.

Where’s my two dollars?!
If only this book had the energy, fun, and cheesy 80s vibe of the Better Off Dead / John Cusack movie. Alas, other than having shades of the “where’s my two dollar” bit, this book was a snooze.
Roak is a Larry Stu with no backstory or character, other than his blockheaded fixation with recovering 600,000 chits from a gangster without killing said gangster. When offered more than 600,000? “No thanks,” he says, “I just want what’s owed me.” Riiiiight. Said gangster spends the entire book trying to kill Roak and when they finally meet up, Roak is still willing to let him live if Roak gets his money. Riiiight. Roak gets stabbed, bludgeoned, and shot over and over again, yet proceeds to keep fighting as if his injuries are mere hangnails… then he pops into a med-tube and “poof” all healed for the next identical scene of nonsensical fighting. Shampoo, rinse, repeat.
If you’re looking for a better sci-fi anti-hero bounty hunter story, I recommend the Tyrus Rechs Contract Consortium trilogy, particularly Requiem for Medusa.
If you’ll settle for a hitman anti-hero, go with Agent G; it’s like the movie Hitman/Agent 47… only with cyborgs and future laser guns.
