About this listen

In order to save my father, I have to marry the God of Death.

When twenty-four-year old Hanna Heikkinen's estranged father dies, she reluctantly makes the trip to Northern Finland for his funeral. Being in the enchanting land of ice and snow feels miles away from Hanna's busy life back in Los Angeles, especially under the complicated circumstances.

But when Hanna discovers that her father's body is missing, that's when things really get weird. A mysterious man, Rasmus, tells Hanna the truth: her father was a powerful shaman who went into Tuonela, the Realm of the Dead, in order to barter for more life, and has been held captive by Tuoni, the God of Death. The only way her father can be freed is if she travels with Rasmus into the mythical underworld to rescue him.

Willing to do anything to have a second chance with her father, Hanna accompanies Rasmus into the dark and bloody realm, traveling via the River of Shadows, stalked by dangerous creatures, monsters, and the living dead, until they finally come into the haunted kingdom ruled by Death and his family.

Only for her to be captured and held prisoner by the God of Death himself.

enjoyed the narrators, and the story was different to what I usually like, but very enjoyable. The characters were all likeable and had strong roles.(Yes there's some s*x in here too, not too much but steamy) Will be listening to the next one.

This book hit close to home in a few ways for me so I got utterly drawn in to it, beyond that though on paper the synopsis/blurb suggested this should totally be my cup of tea and it is, I've read/listened to quite a few Karina Halle books before and I like her writing style and tone, being light and funny at times and emotional and raw at others especially if there are topics which resonate with you included, I really enjoyed the focus on Finnish mythology as it was different and interesting, (the geek in me wandered off and googled some of the myths) I loved the main characters, the magical world, story, the romance and Tuoni 💗 I'm a bit smitten with him and I'm praying he doesn't turn into the Tamlin of the story (IYKYK) definitely going straight on to the next one, listening on audiobook as well and Jo Raylon is a great narrator, she conveys the tone of the story perfectly throughout, probably more 4.5 ⭐'s overall
