Summary

At the festival of Osiris, loyal subjects of the pharaoh gather to pay homage to their leader. Only Taita, a wise and formidably gifted enunch slave, sees him as a symbol of the kingdom's fading glory.

Danger surounds all those who oppose the ruling elite. But together with his protégés, Lostris, the beautiful 14-year-old daughter of his master Lord Intef, and the proud young army officer Tanus, Taita begins the long and dangerous journey towards his own glorious dream: to restore the majesty of the Pharaoh of Pharaohs on the glittering banks of the nile.

A little disappointed

Beautiful story and Tahita is still my most loved book character. BUT the reading is abridged and missing a lot of the story!!! Some of my very most favourite parts have been taken out. It's still a pleasure to listen to but I would recommend reading to the book witch is more complete.

Robbed

Can't express how disappointed I am with this bullet point version of River God It's been abridged almost beyond recognition , huge swathes of the original book have been omitted .
If you loved reading the book , this version is guaranteed to leave you asking what happened to the story

So disappointed

It was chopped so much I nearly couldn't follow the story. The whole slaughter of the Shrikes by the rise of the slave girls is missing as is the rescue of the king on his barge. A very disappointing audio book and Audio book should be ashamed of putting it in their catalogue.

disappointed customer.

It is a great shame that an obviously brilliant story was spoilt by the fact that was badly abridged. I will certainly not be purchasing books which have been abridged in the future. A great disappointment.

Emotional roller coaster

This well written story, equally well narrated, draws on the whole spectrum of human emotions. In parts it is chilling and brutal, and in others romantic and seductive. If you like historical drama, you'll love River God.

Why do an abridged version?

Sorry you spoiled a good story for no reason. Not sure why you took all the good bits out

Interesting

I liked the story though it felt like too much detail at times. I find ancient Egypt fascinating so any story set in it is going to be a win for me, but this one is definitely a pick

Fact & fiction weaved together by a true master.

I first read this book 22 years ago as a young teenager & it truly captivated me. I didn't know when I turned the last page just how it would subtly influence my years to come. It kindled a fascination for the ancient world that grew into a passion, leading to an Ancient History degree & a career writing historical fiction. Rediscovering the story, this time via audiobook, I was reminded just how fantastic & mesmerising a tale Wilber Smith created. Blending fact & fiction seamlessly & immersing the reader/listener in a world both exotic & familiar. This tale is as immortal as it characters!!

Why making abridged vertion?

The original is far better than this abridged vertion who takes away most of what makes this story compelling.
I was disapointed!
