Summary

Sarah Holt wants nothing more than to win the Burke and Duke internship and mentor under some of the country’s top architectural minds. The only obstacle between Sarah and her goal is a jilted ex-lover hell-bent on sabotaging her career.

When Sarah meets Leo Russell, an unlikely undergraduate, the attraction is instantaneous, and all her best-laid plans begin to unravel. For the first time in her life, Sarah considers the fact that there may be one thing more important to her than her ambition. As her feelings for Leo grow stronger, however, so does her suspicion that all is not as it appears with the man she is falling for. Determined to uncover the truth, Sarah begins to investigate Leo’s murky past, only to discover a house in the suburbs, and a stunningly sophisticated redhead who implores Sarah to walk away.

As the line between right and wrong becomes blurred by the shocking revelation of Leo’s guarded secrets, Sarah must make a decision that will ultimately determine the rest of her life.

A clever ending.

A bit of a slow beginning. But as we learned more of Sarah and Leo's relationship I became invested more in the story. I was constantly changing my mind about who Leo was a person and what he was hiding. The ending I didn't see coming and it blew me away.

Emotional!

No spoilers here! It's hard to write a review on this book without giving away anything so I will just say that Riven is unpredictable, emotional, and unforgettable. I loved Sarah and Leo and felt they made a beautiful couple. There was a twist in the story that I thought I had figured out but I was wrong. This book had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Katlynn Millions did a great job bringing this story to life. I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

absolutely gut wrenching but beautifully told

I have listened to a few books by melissa delport now and she is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. She has a wonderful way of bringing the characters to life and you go on the ride along with them. This is one of my favourite books by the author so far. it starts of slowly but I encourage readers to keep with it. I dont want to spoil this book for anybody as I think it's best that they go into this story blind for the first time. Its emotional, gut wrenching , epic and will keep in your mind long after you have read the last page . A beautiful story that left me list for words. I was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review

A man of secrets.

This was an easy listen by an author who adopts various guises according to her genres. I had read one other by Lissa Del, A Life Made of Lava, and I have to confess, this was always going to be a hard act to follow. I enjoyed Riven, but sadly, it couldn't compete with its predecessor.

Sarah Holt is a motivated architecture student, top of her class and desperate to earn herself an internship into Burke & Duke. She sees this as her chance to learn from the subject's super-stars. When we meet her she is finishing an ill-advised relationship with one of her tutors. Meanwhile, along comes Leo - handsome, dashing Leo. What's a girl to do? A new relationship always brings a string of unknowns and Leo seems to be hiding more than most.

I enjoyed discovering Leo's secrets and Sarah's reactions to them. But that ending!!

Well read by Katlynn Millions.

Contemporary romance

A contemporary romance where the story and pace gradually build up through the book. The story seemed a bit slow to begin with but I got drawn into the story of Sarah and Leo. To say much more would give the story away, but this was a well narrated audio book that I enjoyed and I would read more of Alissa Del’s work.

Good

Although it’s not my usual genre, I enjoyed listening to this love story. Well narrated and kept my attention to the end, which wasn’t what I expected.

Book review

Nice change from my usual
genre - an enjoyable chick lit book. I liked the college setting and the quirky college students. The main character Sara grew on me as the book progressed. Once I started listening I could not put it down.

If you like the genre, you will love it!

Having listened to and absolutely adored three of the multi-talented and genre-hopping Lissa Del’s/ Melissa Delport’s previous books (the excellent fantasy adventure The Clock Keeper, dystopian YA The Legacy, and the eye-opening Life Made From Lava) I picked this one up despite contemporary romance not being my genre at all.
Predictably it wasn’t entirely my cup of tea, I’m just not into romance driven plots - having said that, I found it well written, the characters had a lot more depth than I expected, the storyline wasn’t nigh on as predictable as it could have been, the narration was excellent and I found myself routing a bit for Sarah’s career and dreams. I might even have had a little tear in my eye at the end, although I was cutting onions at the time ;)
In short, I didn’t hate it - if you like this genre you will love it!

Was great, until the end

Caution spoilers ahead. I was enjoying this story until the end. Talk about a depressing ending. The guy dies and the evil jackass teacher has no repercussions for his antics.

An emotional listen

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It had some ups and downs and was great story. I'm not going to lie it was an emotional read. There were a couple of twists that I didn't expect and some I did. I have not previously read or listened to this author before but I would definitely listen or read another book by her. I liked the characters (well most of them). The plot was engaging and kept me listening. I also enjoyed listening to the narrator her voice was smooth and easy to listen to. I would recommend both the author and books read by this narrator to others.

Entertaining read/listen

My third read/listen from author Lissa Del (Melissa Delport) was absolutely excellent.! Narrator Katelynn Million’s narration added greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Well-written, with well-developed characters, but not my typical read. This is a good book, just not my thing, maybe it's her Lissa Del pseudonym & the genre written under it. Still. I’ll be reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Slow start but amazing read.

Save for a few typos (or misreads) and an American girl with oddly placed British Commonwealth terms and phrases, Riven is amazing. The plot progression started off slow, but when I got toward the ending, it really picked up. The story itself unfolded in a way I didn't anticipate, which is what made me love it. I hadn't read any blurb or promo material before I dove in, but the unexpected at the end was oddly refreshing. Between the narration and the plot, I was so immersed in the story that I was crying during the denouement like I was somehow involved in what happened. Excellent storytelling by both ladies.

Heartbreaking but lovely

I really enjoyed this audiobook – it’s a love story, but not your typical love story and it wasn’t predictable – there is nothing worse than an ending that you can see coming from a mile away. It was a heartbreaking story true, but it was worth the tears I cried on the way to work while finishing it.

Wow!!!

Riven by Lissa Del is incredible. I loved how things were not predictable. There were a roller coaster of emotions in this book. The characters of Sarah and Leo really appealed to me. Katlynn Millions performed the book flawlessly. She brought the characters to life with her voice. I loved the details the author added in the story like the Game Night, the stalkerish ex-boyfriend, the quirky friends. Woven together this story really kept my attention. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Amazing!

I LOVE this book. It is a tear-jerking train ride with ups and downs that are totally unexpected. It kept me thoroughly invested until the very last words.

The audio performance was as expected by Katlynn Millions: awesome. A pleasure to listen to and very well done.
