Summary

Augum, Bridget, and Leera want only to study new spells and make their legendary mentor proud. But when she unexpectedly departs on a crucial quest, they run afoul of a devious old witch and are forced to make a hasty getaway - straight into the hands of a notorious maniac known as the Blade of Sorrows.

Prisoners of the Blade and his sadistic apprentice, the trio must face its greatest challenge yet: escape using nothing but an ancient spell with some nasty side effects. But more than their lives are at stake, for an entire kingdom's hopes rest with their mentor - and she's heading for a deadly trap.

Could not finish

I found the first book to be entertaining enough to buy the second audio book. However, it just became too painful to finish - I made it not quite 1/2 way through. I am sorry but this book was just a non-stop adolescent whine fest. I actually really enjoy YA, coming of age fantasy books but I do not get how anyone listening could find Riven entertaining. Don't trust my opinion? Go ahead and read the free sample on Amazon for the Kindle version. The whining in the sample persisted throughout my listening experience. Like I said, painful. Oh, and if I had to listen to someone shout "Shyneo" one more time . . . well, you get the point.

it should be called "Frustration"

It should be called "Frustration" Not enough little victories throughout and often because of dumb decisions. The main characters were likable but teens whining to each other while in situation where they could be killed was irritating. topping it off with the main characters running into powerful allies that didn't use their powers to to whup some azz and infact allowed weeker villains to bully them. Just useless. I was mostly frustrated the whole time. I don't know why I plowed through. I did enjoy the narrator and the 1st book was good enough to buy this one.

Everything Goes Wrong

I dislike stories where things constantly go wrong and the hero’s plans constantly come undone. Worse is when the heroes keep doing stupid things. Good characterization makes this worse because you care about the fate of the characters.

Ok. But somewhat frustrating!

It is a decent story. But a far fall from the first book. The only way I can think to describe it is this. Imagine you stub your tow every day on a block of wood, and instead of moving the block of wood you just keep stubbing your tow on it over and over. That's basically this book. Same premise over and over until the very end. Also, as with more books than I care to name, the main "hero" of the book becomes very whiney and irritating. With all that said it is worth listening to. it seems to set up what could be a great 3rd book.

Riven

It was a really good story of the kids building and learning of life in their time. Many heartaches and tribulations along the path looking for his Nana. Torture and pain in many corners of life for these young adventurers and yet they keep their fortitude and resolve to keep looking and pushing back against darkness and the Legion.

Everything Goes Wrong Everytime

Bunch of whiney kids that make the wrong choice Everytime. All the powerful people they have helping them kill themselves and never actually help. This is the worst book I've got through audible.

I really enjoyed this story and it was a really great continuation of the first book. I can't wait to see what happens next.
