Summary

"Rich and lucky, Lydia! That's what you're destined to be, rich and lucky!” There was a bright gleam in Hiram Haydensfield's eyes. Lydia Baker knew that look in her husband's eyes, all too well.

“Oh Hiram! Here you go, again! I know what you're going to say.”

Lydia wanted to interrupt Hiram and cut him off, but Hiram would not have any of it. She knew that he would not let her, but she had to try. She had heard him rattle off his dreams over and over again, and by now, she knew what was coming.

“We're going to get rich, you and me. You'll be the luckiest woman in America, for letting me be your husband.”

Lydia held Hiram's hand tighter than she already did. “Oh Hiram! You already know that I'm the luckiest woman already. Just being together with you, is all I can ask for.”

The two of them held hands as they walked through the fields of tall grass. Behind them their little homestead stood, right in front of the fields and the nearby valley. A river flowed close to the valley where Hiram's homestead stood. The little home was firmly planted on the ground, as a silent and firm testament to Hiram's hard work and perseverance. Hiram was proud of what he had achieved, but he wanted more. A whole lot more. The lands around the valley showed tremendous promise, promise that only Hiram seemed to notice. It was for this reason that he had purchased several of the lands and quickly staked his claim to the wide area.

“You're going to be a lot luckier than you already are, Lydia! You see, we're going to put up a town here.” The gleam in Hiram's eyes did not falter. He had a faraway look in them, almost as if he were already staring directly at the town in front of him. There was nothing in front of Hiram but the rocky plains, and the valley up ahead, but in his mind's eye, he was already looking at it. In Hiram's mind, the town was already standing in front of them. This was the way it always was with men of passion and vision. To them, their dreams had already somehow, been achieved. It was only a matter of claiming them, and making their vision a reality.

“This is going to be a bustling gold town! People are going to be coming in here by the droves, wanting to find their fortune, and a better life. I can already see it all now, Lydia. It's going to be a busy little town where dreams and fortunes are made, especially our own! I'm going to name the town after you. Lydia. It'll be called Bakerstown, because you're always my inspiration."

Wild West adventure and a branch.

Never thought that a little branch can have so much power to create and to destroy. It was very nice listening. At first, I wasn't sure for all that cowboy accent but quickly it becomes rather nice, an extra perk for your dollar.
