About this listen

Riley thought he knew what to expect from college, but he never planned for angels, demons, or a team of attractive, overprotective guardians.

When one fateful night opens his eyes to a world he never knew existed, Riley Shepard must navigate a host of supernatural dangers, all while struggling with new and confusing feelings for his guardian angels. With the promise of friends, family, and freedom finally within his grasp, he fears not only for his heart but for his life, as well.

Lucky for him, some things are worth dying for.

Revelations is the first book in the slow-burn harem/poly romance series Fire & Brimstone, featuring hurt/comfort, swoon-worthy guardian angels, sexual awakening, and an unlikely hero, too innocent for his own good.

Trigger warnings include: situations of homophobia (both external and internal), past child abuse, self-harm, mental health, and one instance (prologue) of nongraphic sexual assault.

I read Revelation - book one in the Fire and Brimstone series - when it first came out, and eagerly read the next 5 books in the series. This is a fantastic series - it has a lot of action, some heavy angst and tense moments, paranormal aspects, and a lot of amazing romance as Riley and his angels find their happily ever after and what works for them. This is a slow burn - in book 1 there isn't any real romance, but you see the start of what will eventually take place. Revelation focuses a lot on Riley and how he came to be who he is, and why he has his angels. I enjoyed the narrator of this book, but it wasn't my absolute favourite - I wasn't in love with the voices picked, especially for Riley. I will admit this dimished my enjoyment of the audiobook a little bit, but for others this might not be an issue. I did feel the audio was well-done and well-edited. I will definitely keep going with the series as it continues on audio.

Very Addictive Story!

This book was absolutely brilliant. Riley was sweet, awkward and a little standoffish. Poor Riley desperately needed love, affection and a place to belong. I loved the fact that he had a friend to share the questions in his heart.

This story was written beautifully and pulled me into its depth effortlessly. The raw emotions floating around made my heart ache. There were parts where I cried, others where I laughed and some where I was left simply curious to see his things would plan out.

Narrator was amazing; he made the characters come alive.

What an amazing and completely unexpected thrilling and enjoyable book Revelations: Fire & Brimstone Scroll 1 was.
Revelations is the first book in a slow burn fantasy series about Angles and Demons and nephilim.
The story centres around Riley and his Guardian Angles, Jai, Noel and Gideon.
My heart broke for Riley and how he struggles with his social and personal anxiety but found myself cheering him on as he finds inner strength when needed.
Nikole Knight is a new author to me and I found her world building and character development excellent she kept the storyline interesting and listener engaged.
The heat levels are extremely low but that didn’t detract from the storyline at all, there are a further 5 books in this series so maybe thing will heat up?
Kirt Graves was excellent in his narration and I hope he continues to narrate any further books in this series. I will definitely be downloading the rest of this series as it is released.
There are trigger warnings of homophobia, past child abuse, self harm, mental health, and one instance of non-graphic sexual assault (prologue)

Holy Trinity! What a Revelation!

This first book in the series sets up the world for Riley our main character and his guardians who clearly will become much, much more to him. The world building in excellent and the conflict between our heroes and the evils they must confront is nicely done. Riley clearly has major problems to overcome emotionally before he can be what this world needs and it will be interesting to see how his guardians help him overcome them. This is not going to be a fast process for Riley. There is action here, but nothing developing or resolving the emotional relationships. That is fine with me, I love settling in with a good long series with great characters. Kirt Graves is a favorite narrator of mine and his work here demonstrates why. He is perfection with all the characters, but especially with Riley. He clearly brings out all the emotional problems he has, but also shows us hints of the strength that he will need to overcome the challenges the author is setting up for him ahead.

Great saga set-up

Wow, so I realise I'm late to the party with this series... it's been on my TBR for a loooong time and hasn't quite made it to the top of the list, but having had the chance to listen to the Revelations audiobook I've a feeling I'm going to have to binge the other books now!

This is the slowest of slow burns with a ton of (amazing) world-building and character development, so if your usual go-to is all action (both between the sheets and elsewhere) this probably isn't going to be for you. If you're all about the angst (lots of trigger warnings apply here) of self-discovery, recovery from past abuse, and just your whole world not being what you thought it was generally, this feels like a bit of a gateway to a long and happy reader/series relationship.

I really like the characters: Riley's naivety and innocence show in a childlike (sometimes childish) state, which sometimes feels regressive and other times not...but I'm sure his development will continue. The Guardians are fantastic - all with very different characteristics and personality traits. Their absolute in common is their devotion to Riley's protection and as more than just their job.

The narration is very good. Graves is a talented narrator and he's worked to given each character their own distinct voice and really brings to life their actions and emotions.

This is one of those series openers where I'm so glad I've got the luxury of diving right into the other five books. I genuinely don't have the patience to wait for the audiobooks to be produced, but if each installment is as good as Revelations I'll be happy to listen to the whole thing again.

Book: 5 fantastic stars
Narration: 4 very good stars
