Summary

Dorothea Benton Frank returns to the enchanted landscape of South Carolina's Lowcountry made famous in her beloved New York Times best-seller Sullivans Island to tell the story of the next generation of Hamiltons and Hayes.

Newly graduated from college, aspiring writer Beth Hayes is elected by her family to house-sit the Island Gamble. Buoyed by sentimental memories of growing up on this tiny sandbar seemingly untouched by time, Beth vows to give herself over to the Lowcountry force and discover the wisdom it holds. Just as she vows she will never give into the delusional world of white picket fences, minivans, and eternal love, she meets Max Mitchell. All her convictions and plans begin to unravel with lightning speed. There is so much about life and her family's past that she does not know. Her ignorance and naiveté nearly cost her both her inheritance and her family's respect, but Beth finds unexpected friends to help her through the disaster she faces.

If everything happens for a reason, then Beth's return to Sullivans Island teaches her that betrayal and tragedy are most easily handled when you surround yourself with loyal family and friends in a magical place that loves you so much it wants to claim you as its own.

Completely enjoyable!

I am very embarrased to say that I almost passed this book by because of the previous reviews. I loved this audiobook, and I completely disagree with the previous reviews. The author's descriptions along with the wonderfully life-like characters make this a great book.

The narrator is very good, she captures the characters perfectly. Her voice is very enjoyable to listen to.

Entertaining and fun

Would you listen to Return to Sullivans Island again? Why?

No, but I enjoyed listening to this story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Return to Sullivans Island?

I liked the support the ladies at the salon had for each other.

Have you listened to any of Robin Miles’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time listening to Ms. Miles, I think.

Who was the most memorable character of Return to Sullivans Island and why?

Lucy the neighbor was a hoot.

WHO CARES????

Not me. Even being a native South Carolinian who spent time this summer @ the Isle of Palms didn't help. The first 3 chapters were agonizing and when it didn't pick up after the 4th, I decided not to pick it back up and listen to it. Good luck.

dumb

I just cannot believe some of the junk these publishers release now a days. I can only explain this as the worst audible I have listened to. I could not even finish the book for fear that I would throw my Ipod in exasperation.

I may be too critical but...

The narrator kinda made everyone sound like idiots. The story was ok, I loved the first book, Sullivan's Island. I have not heard it on audio after reading it, I don't want to. The author has a great affection for the south, and that I appreciate!

Loved it

I have enjoyed Ms. Frank's books from the very first one. This one had such a good story line and so many characters to keep up with but Robin Miles narrates like she is each person and furball. Thanks for taking me on a trip to the low country, once again.

don't waste your credit or money.

there have not been many books where I found the main character as dumb and immature as beth is in this book. I almost could not finish listening to it but I held out until the end hoping she would redeem her self in some fashion, she didn't.
I have liked other books by this author so it was disappointing that this book did not live up to her other books. I cannot recommend this book to any adult but perhaps 13 to 15 year old girls would like it.

Not Destined To Become a Classic

I enjoyed the first book..."Sullivans Island.
But it is hard for me to believe the same author wrote Return To........
This was a really boring book and it was geared towards finding a man and living happily ever after.....
However...no one whoreads this book would equate it with any kind of happiness eve after.......
I will not read or listen to any more of this authors work.
