Summary

The thrilling, 20-years-in-the-making conclusion to the New York Times best-selling Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner.

This beloved and award-winning series began with the acclaimed novel The Thief. It and four more standalone volumes bring to life a world of epics, myths, and legends, and feature one of the most charismatic and incorrigible characters of fiction, Eugenides the thief. Now more powerful and cunning than ever before, Eugenides must navigate a perilous future in this sweeping conclusion. Perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Marie Lu, Patrick Rothfuss, and Sarah J. Maas.

Neither accepted nor beloved, Eugenides is the uneasy linchpin of a truce on the Lesser Peninsula, where he has risen to be high king of Attolia, Eddis, and Sounis. As the treacherous Baron Erondites schemes anew and a prophecy appears to foretell the death of the king, the ruthless Mede empire prepares to strike.

The New York Times best-selling Queen’s Thief novels are rich with political machinations, divine intervention, dangerous journeys, battles lost and won, power, passion, and deception.

One of the best in the series

I love this series. I hoped for a long time that there would be another book and this one was worth the wait. I listened to some chapters twice. It is that good. The reader is amazing. He really enhances the whole experience. The characters are wonderful, the plot exciting and dramatic, the magic adds spice, and the whole thing works its spell to perfection. I hope that there will be more in this series from the pen of Ms. Turner!

The ending we deserved

This book was the cherry on top of the series. I’m happy we got to see more of the boy Eugenedies and that there were more twists!

Wonderful Story Brilliantly Read

This book would be a great stand alone story, but is even better having read those previous in the series. I enjoyed yet another perspective of the history of this fictional land and its beguiling rulers. Megan Whalen Turner has written a splendid conclusion to this intriguing series. My 15yr old son, my 18yr old daughter and myself all love this series, and my 12yr old has just started reading “The Thief” I started the series to be able to discuss the stories with my daughter as she read, and found myself looking forward to picking up each book as much as she did. Having my sons then enjoy these same books is a great rarity. It is just another testament to the quality of these stories. As for the performance of the read...it is wonderful. This is the first book in the series I did not read myself before listening to the recorded version. I have truly enjoyed having the characters brought to life with perfect inflection and tone. I have found that the narrator can greatly affect my reaction to the story, and Steve West’s read has only increased my enjoyment of this series.

Simply Amazing!

This was everything I never knew I wanted for the finale. It was reminiscent of the third book. It was heartbreakingly real in a way only Megan Whalen Turner can write. I will always want more of my Thief but this concluded the series perfectly. It is definitely a book I will read and re-read.

Couldn't stop listening to it!

This is one of those rare books that ensnares your mind until you're incapable of functioning till you've finished the story. It definitely lived up to the rest of the series and had a satisfying ending that you'll love. As someone who's read the first two books and jumped straight to this one, let me assure you that you won't feel like you've missed out on much. For fan's of Gem, you'll find a lot of him in this book as the story starts out from the perspective of a crippled boy who is given to Gem as the heir of Eugenides household. You see Gem through the eyes of this boy as he silently fades to the background and observes everyone around him. Meanwhile, war is brewing and political machinations are afoot as the nobles try to hinder our King Gem at every step.

Six stars - worth breaking the rating system for

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series since discovering The Thief in my elementary school library, and this ending is as fitting as every word I have read of Megan Whalen Turner. I am astounded at how she makes so many characters so relatable in such different ways, but Ferric lives up to his brief intro in Thick As Thieves and I loved the return of all the other characters, fittingly despicable and sad as Nehusareh and Ion Nomenus ended up. It’s such a bittersweet feeling having run through this end to the series, but I look forward to many more read-throughs of my favorite series.
