Summary

Learn the rules to building loyal (and lucrative) digital followings....

Renegades Write the Rules reveals the innovative strategies behind the social media success of today’s top celebrities, brands, and sports icons, and how you can follow their lead.

Author Amy Jo Martin is the founder of Digital Royalty and the woman who pioneered how professional sports integrate social media. In this book she shows how to build a faithful following and beat the competition clamoring for people's attention by continually delivering value - when, where, and how people want it. People want to be heard, to be involved, to be entertained, to be adventurous, to be informed.

  • Reveals the winning strategies for using social media to achieve dramatic results
  • Shows how to gain influence with social media that requires an unprecedented (and potentially uncomfortable) level of accessibility and ongoing affinity
  • Filled with illustrative examples of social media successes (including Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, and Nike) that show how humanizing a brand through social media leads to monetization
  • Explores how Amy Jo Martin and other successful entrepreneurs are becoming renegades by using social media to innovate their personal and professional lives
  • The book reveals one of the basic rules of digital media success: Humans connect with humans, not logos and creative taglines.

self absorbed, self-indulged

Would you try another book written by Amy Jo Martin or narrated by Amy Jo Martin?

wasted my money - couldn't listen to any more self-congratulatory, indulgent, personal reviews read out by the author about herself. It was awkward and I feel like I wasted my money.

Would you ever listen to anything by Amy Jo Martin again?

No, her voice is annoying too

How did the narrator detract from the book?

annoying, self absorbed

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

frustration

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your money on this book

Do not waste your time or money

Would you try another book from Amy Jo Martin and/or Amy Jo Martin?

Maybe but I could not make it past halfway through this. Now if all of the actual "content" is in the second half, then she failed to convince me to stick around to find out. The first chapters come off as self promoting teenage hero worship, and almost smarmy. More of a autobiography about how well connected she is to the"well connected". You need to grab your reader early. I'm glad I listened to an incredibly motivating and content stuffed book "Duct Tape Marketing" by John Jantsch first or i would be back to thinking that social media is about what type of sushi i had last night. If you are a business professional curious about the power of social media and what it can do for you, run, now..... Pay attention , I.'m only going to say this once. DUCT TAPE MARKETING!!!!!!!!

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure, browsing now...

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not gonna hang around to find out

Any additional comments?

Not really

You think you know

I really enjoyed this book. I’ve worked in marketing for 13 years and while “humanizing” any brand is a goal always strived for these days, Amy has a way of delivering this message in a way that hit home for me like it never has before. The real-life examples provided really got my wheels turning with fresh ideas and a new zest for social media. Whether your a brand, an influencer, or someone sitting on the sidelines thinking about chasing your dream...this book is just what you need to breathe new life into what you’re doing and figure out your purpose.

Amy Jo is smart /tactful & her story is relatable

Would you listen to Renegades Write the Rules again? Why?

May be... It was good but I don't usually listen to books again unless it was amazing.

Any additional comments?

I liked how relatable Amy Jo, and her story is very honest. There was nothing in the book that was crazy groundbreaking, but she understands that herself. She is open, candid and honest. Her examples of working with different client's also really help to open up what it is about social media that is so attractive and can be so beneficial for people.
