About this listen

He's relentless. He's aggressive. His armor is scarred to hell.

Toth Krag is infamous among bounty hunters. Nobody has ever seen his face and lived to tell the tale. He doesn't fail. He doesn't quit. And he doesn't take prisoners. But maybe he's getting soft. For once, he showed mercy, and no good deed goes unpunished, so now he's tracking the deadbeats who run Volant's Fabulous Spectacle.

She's casual. She's spontaneous. She never liked Earth that much anyway.

Yara Duncan is always at the wrong place at the wrong time. That's how she wound up as the human attraction in a space circus. Frankly, it's the best gig she's ever had. Aliens pay to watch her eat and do puzzles, and she gets to see the galaxy free of charge. She's enjoying the adventure, until the scariest hunter in the universe shows up. For some reason, he thinks she's in charge, and he's determined to drag her back to face his employers.

Yara doesn't run from her problems, and Krag doesn't know what to do with a human who seems more interested in what he looks like under his armor.

This time, the hunter becomes the hunted in the wildly unpredictable game of love . . .

Contains mature themes.

Alien romance is far from my usual genre, but I read the first book in the series because it was on a list of recommendations from an author I usually enjoy. I liked it enough to continue the series. The second book wasn’t as good but it wasn’t terrible either. I wouldn’t have bothered reading the final book, but my standards are a bit lower for audio books because they help pass the time while I am driving, cleaning, etc. I wish I hadn’t wasted my credit. This story was downright terrible. The chatty and hopelessly optimistic protagonist was mostly just irritating. She’s supposed to have been living in alien company for several years but still speaks almost entirely in idioms and Earth references and then gets frustrated when other beings don’t understand her. The constant need to rephrase everything she says gets old REALLY fast. The “plan” is about as well thought out as me deciding I need money so I should rob a bank despite having no applicable skills or contacts to people with applicable skills. But that’s okay, I’ve seen a few films about bank robberies so I’m obviously a criminal mastermind. But everyone goes along with it with only the mildest protests. But it doesn’t matter because characters just happen to display skills or take actions completely contrary to their developed backstory in order to move forward in their ridiculous “plan.” I’m not even remotely interested in graphic alien sex scenes and they didn’t seem to advance the plot in any way (after the first one I just skipped over them) but maybe they would add something to the story for someone more interested in that sort of thing? The narration was tolerable but not great with a tendency towards overdoing character accents/voices.
