Critic reviews

"Hysterical! Made me want to break out a can of Aqua Net and hit the Jersey shore. Loved the characters and their sweet and steamy love story. You'll find yourself rooting for Layla and dreaming about Trip for years to come." (Mika Thomas, Fiction Review)

Deceptive Advertising

The publishers’ description of this book did not mention that a person had to listen to the entire trilogy of books to get the whole story. It also did not mention that Book 1 only covered the one year of Layla’s senior year in high school. It didn’t mention how tedious it was going to be to listen to this girl go through all of the high school angst to get absolutely nowhere in the story!

I was 13 chapters into Book 1 before I had the sense to jump ahead looking for the book to arrive at the adult Layla and Trip. That is when I realized there is an entire 2nd book to get through before that! Now, do I bother with Book 2 (free in the romance package) or do I jump to Book 3 to satisfy my curiosity about Layla and Trip? Or do I just dump T. Torrest and move on to a more reliable author?

Per the narration, Allison Ryan was not the best casting. Her choice to perform Layla as representing herself to her peers as casual and off-hand did not work because there’s something too brisk in Ryan’s voice; a sharp clip in her speech that doesn’t leave room to incorporate Layla’s teenage vulnerability. Ryan misses the mark.

I can’t recommend Book 1 at all. Therefore, I think it would take more endurance than I have to enjoy the trilogy.

Not great unless you want to read all three

I love a good series, but I prefer each book to stand alone, and this one obviously does not. the book begins in the present time but never returns. I kept hoping to be given even a tiny clue as to where the path would lead, but, for all the reader knows, it was a high school love story, and the two characters (one now famous) never spoke again.

Young Love <3

Would you listen to Remember When again? Why?

Yes!!!!!!! I absolutely LOVED this book. The dynamics that build between the characters is so organic and profound. Loved the character development. I am actually SOBBING! I didn't have very high expectations when I began this book, but it blew me away!

What other book might you compare Remember When to and why?

Hmmmmm....It is a high school love romance on steroids. I am a college senior, and I usually think that high school drama is too young for my taste...but this story was very mature and real.

Have you listened to any of Allyson Ryan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first time. At first I wasn't sure of what I thought about her, but she really grew on me.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Remember When:
First Love is Always the Truest Love

Any additional comments?

I am positive I will read the entire series!

I loved the references to the 90's....it made me laugh out loud several times!

Which character – as performed by Allyson Ryan – was your favorite?

Trip was my favorite character, every girl should experience a guy like him!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Finding out what was written by Trip in the assignment the first week of school.

Any additional comments?

Great book, it made me feel invested in the characters and didn't want it to end. I wanted to know what happened to them and how their futures played out. It is a very sweet love story with some hot moments and lots of humor! I would definitely recommend this book!

Wonderful Story

I loved this story and the narration. It was fun taking a visit back to the 90's. The energy was great and kept me interested. Couldn't stop listening. The high school experience portrayed in this story was fun. Loved Layla and Trip and their high school friends. Lots of detail. Overall fun book. The narrator was excellent. She did a wonderful job with the characters and their personalities. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Under seasoned dish.

This book was like listening to Layla's diary the story focuses on the randomness of bud relationships. In the end I'm confused about who Layla really is and wish that we got more of the characters sans Trip. While the narrator did a good job reading the story I don't think she set the right tone for the characters, Layla seems a little softer that how the narrator read her. I'm not sure that that's the narrators fault since the character is a contradiction in itself. I'd have to say that I was bored with how the book was written but I even contradict myself by saying I still want to hear the trainwreck of a story out. I have invested myself into their story hoping it will pay off with the romance novel feels.

Pretty good

The book started out a bit slow and boring. As I continued to read I begin to enjoy but overall I don’t think I would’ve chosen this book if I had been able to sample it in a way that it would’ve been able to describe more in detail to me what it was about. Overall, I would say it turned out to be OK since I finished it.

Oh Sweet Nostalgia!!

A very sweet story of young love that brought a wave of nostalgia for the simplicity of the 90s. It made me smile, laugh & cheer for the young love stories woven throughout especially Layla and Trip. Filled with possibility and hope for the future, I found myself enthralled.

I didn’t particularly like the narrator’s tone/voice during the story telling but she did a nice job with the character voices

start to a 3 book series not too bad

narrator's not bad too bad it wasn't more NY or Jersey accent. This is typical high school romance stuff . Layla likes Trip but seems to use Cooper as a buffer and ghost Trip tell the end then they get to gather for the summer tell Layla goes to college and Trip travels the world.
