Publisher's Summary

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are in themselves exceedingly brief, less than 10 pages of large type in the original. Yet they contain the essence of practical wisdom, set forth in admirable order and detail. The theme, if the present interpreter be right, is the great regeneration, the birth of the spiritual from the psychical man: the same theme which Paul so wisely and eloquently set forth in writing to his disciples in Corinth, the theme of all mystics in all lands.

We think of ourselves as living a purely physical life, in these material bodies of ours. In reality, we have gone far indeed from pure physical life; for ages, our life has been psychical, we have been centered and immersed in the psychic nature. Some of the schools of India say that the psychic nature is, as it were, a looking-glass, wherein are mirrored the things seen by the physical eyes and heard by the physical ears. But this is a magic mirror; the images remain, and take a certain life of their own. Thus within the psychic realm of our life there grows up an imaged world wherein we dwell; a world of the images of things seen and heard, and therefore a world of memories; a world also of hopes and desires, of fears and regrets. Mental life grows up among these images, built on a measuring and comparing, on the massing of images together into general ideas; on the abstraction of new notions and images from these; till a new world is built up within, full of desires and hates, ambition, envy, longing, speculation, curiosity, self-will, self-interest.

    "Fantastic"

From all of the self experimentation and the amounts of research I've done and the books I've read I have come to dislike books with commentary because of incorrect opinions or wrong self observation has been injected. I can say that this authors opinions I have found enlightening and agreeable 100%. I still would like a copy with no commentary however, but this is great for anyone :)

    "Brilliance!"

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali was absolutely fantastic! I'm definitely going to have to listen to it about 50 more times at least. I could feel the illumination firing off synapsis in my brain. thank you Patanjali!

    "extraordinary"

I have read hundreds of books on spirituality and mythology and been practicing since the late seventies

this book has the ability to continue one's deeper perspective and practice.

this is not meant to be a primer, it is a more advanced, sophisticated description of how one can continue to refine their abilities to evolve spiritually

without deeper experience this book may actually seem silly and sentimental

    "Now I understand"

Yogic philosophy in general and Patanjali in particular have always seemed otherworldly to me. This recording changed my viewpoint.

This presentation is in no way a westernizing or simplifying of the philosophy. It's just so clear and straightforward that I couldn't help but get the picture. I had it wrong. Patanjali was very down to earth.

This lecture hits you right between the eyes. (Pun intended.) Whoever did the commentary has an amazing command of language. You WILL get the point!

Yoga is not my path. But now I understand what it's about.
