He's a formidable foe who wants to snatch us away from God, and the thought of doing battle with him can seem daunting. Well-known Catholic theologian Dr. Scott Hahn explains Christ's Paschal sacrifice on the cross as the fulfillment of the traditional fourth cup used in the celebration of Passover, drawing symbolic parallels to the Last Supper and Christ's death on Calvary. Through his scholarly insights and important biblical connections, Mass will come alive for you as never before!
Of all things Catholic, there is nothing that is so familiar as the Mass. With its unchanging prayers, the Mass fits Catholics like their favorite clothes. Yet most Catholics sitting in the pews on Sundays fail to see the powerful supernatural drama that enfolds them. Pope John Paul II described the Mass as "Heaven on Earth," explaining that what "we celebrate on Earth is a mysterious participation in the heavenly liturgy."

>The Screwtape Letters, now in its 70th anniversary year, is an iconic classic on spiritual warfare and the power of the devil. This profound and striking narrative takes the form of a series of letters from Screwtape, a devil high in the Infernal Civil Service, to his nephew Wormwood, a junior colleague engaged in his first mission on Earth trying to secure the damnation of a young man who has just become a Christian. Although the young man initially looks to be a willing victim, he changes his ways and is ‘lost’ to the young devil.
Love, Henri consists of over 100 letters that stretch from the earliest years of Henri's career up through his last 10 years at L'Arche Daybreak. Rich in spiritual insights, the letters highlight a number themes that emerged in both Henri's work over the years, including vocation, solitude, prayer, suffering, and perseverance in difficult times. These deeply spiritual letters, sometimes poignant, sometimes funny, ulimately demonstrate the rich value of communicating with God through others.
Over the past hundred years, scholars have attacked the historical truth of the Gospels and argued that they were originally anonymous and filled with contradictions. In The Case for Jesus, Brant Pitre taps in to the wells of Christian scripture, history, and tradition to ask and answer a number of different questions, including: If we don't know who wrote the Gospels, how can we trust them? How are the four Gospels different from other Gospels, such as the lost Gospel of "Q" and the Gospel of Thomas?
The only true and unedited telling of the life of Christ - his life and times,in historical context, but not lacking the psychology behind his physical being and spirit. Unlike other books seeking to strip Jesus' story to reveal only the human being, Romano Guardini's The Lord gives the complete story of Jesus Christ - as man, Holy Ghost, and Creator. Pope Benedict XVI lauds Guardini's work as providing a full understanding of the Son of God away from the prejudice that rationality engenders.
Teresa of Avila's Interior Castle is one of the most celebrated books ever written by a mystic on abiding in union with Christ. Writing in obedience to the requests of two of her superiors, the humble 16th century Spanish sister protests "...for the love of God, let me get on with my spinning and go to choir...like the other sisters...I am not meant for writing; I have neither the health nor the wits for it."
Angels and saints. Catholics tend to think of them as different from the rest of us. They're cast in plaster or simpering on a holy card, performing miracles with superhero strength, or playing a harp in highest heaven.
Yet they are very near to us in every way. In this lively audiobook, Scott Hahn dispels the false notions and urban legends people use to keep the saints at a safe distance. The truth is that Jesus Christ has united heaven and earth in a close communion. Drawing deeply from Scripture, Dr. Hahn shows that the hosts of heaven surround the earthly Church as a "great cloud of witnesses".
Fr. Robert Barron's comprehensive work goes straight to the core of the Catholic faith. He first examines the foundations of Christ's incarnation, life and ministry, and then works through the essentials of the Catholic tradition: from sacraments, worship and prayer, to Mary and the saints, and on to salvation, heaven and hell. Throughout this epic journey, Fr. Barron uses art, literature, personal stories, Scripture, theology, philosophy and history to present a complete picture of the Church to the world.
What could be more familiar than the Christmas story - and yet what could be more extraordinary? The cast of characters is strange and exotic: shepherds and magicians, an emperor and a despot, angels, and a baby who is Almighty God. The strangeness calls for an explanation, and this book provides it by examining the characters and the story in light of the biblical and historical context.
A gifted storyteller and spiritual director, Father James Martin, SJ, invites readers to experience the stories of the Gospels in a completely new, vivid, and exciting way to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus. Moving sequentially through the Gospels, considering not only familiar passages but also the "hidden life" of Jesus, the book offers a bold retelling of the life of Christ, faithful to the Christian tradition, while meditating on parts of the narrative that have often escaped notice.
Over the past 20 years, Matthew Kelly has seen more of the world than most presidents and more of the Church than most bishops. Now, in this unique and timely book, he proposes that Catholicism is not a lifeless set of rules and regulations, but a way of life designed by God to help each person reach his or her full potential. With remarkable insight, Kelly dispels dozens of myths that surround the rejection of Catholicism today and provides a profound and practical vision of what will lead the Catholic Church to thrive again in the future.
With the warmth, wisdom, and grace that infuse his works, Father James Martin explains why Jesus' crucifixion and death on the cross is an important teaching moment in the Gospels. Jesus' final statements, words that are deeply cherished by his followers, exemplify the depth of his suffering but also provide a key to his empathy and why we can connect with him so deeply.
The Blackwell Companion to Catholicism offers an extensive survey of the history, doctrine, practices, and global circumstances of Roman Catholicism, written by a range of distinguished and experienced Catholic writers. Engages its readers in an informed and informative conversation about Roman Catholic life and thought.
In The Rosary, Johnnette Benkovic, founder and president of Living His Life Abundantly and the founder of Women of Grace, teams up Thomas K. Sullivan, the creator of the Warrior Rosary, to explore why the rosary is the weapon for such a time as this. Together, they've gathered some of the most astonishing historical and contemporary accounts of victories associated with the rosary along with their own inspiring personal experiences.
Listeners will discover insights that will enhance their own experiences of the rosary, including special prayers based on the lives and writings of the saints who understood the power of this classic Catholic devotion.
This is a lovely tribute to the meaning, power, and beauty inherent in the Most Holy Rosary. Through a brief history and many touching anectdotes, this book will bring you a deeper appreciation for the devotion to the rosary. If you have neglected it for some time, you’re likely to return to the rosary with a grateful heart.
As a dedicated rosary maker and someone who recently reconciled with the Church, I have at times held to the rosary as my lifeline. I experienced clerical abuse from which I thought I could not heal. Indeed, I could not heal on my own. Through the rosary, I found the comfort, forgiveness, and peace that only Our Lord can give, and returned to the Church.
Each writer in this book has a wonderful story of grace and faith that will inspire you to seek the richness of graces found in the contemplation of the sacred mysteries. Many of us have experienced our little miracles. Maybe you have, too.
The rosary is a profound weapon in your daily spiritual warfare arsenal. While Christ has conquered, we must never forget the devil is still active, determined, and very real. Turn to your rosary in times of temptation, challenge, and trial. All these things will happen. We were not promised an easy life as Christians, and suffering is inevitable. During these struggles, the rosary will aid you in keeping your eyes on Christ and His Blessed Mother.
As Catholics, we should know what the rosary is and is not, and we should pray it properly and well. This may seem obvious, but poor catechesis and insufficient explanation in early training at home may be issues, and RCIA leaders’ explanations are sometimes inadequate for converts.
It is also good to be able to explain the rosary simply and clearly to those who misunderstand it. This book can be helpful and supportive when such occasions arise. Accusations that the rosary is superstitious nonsense, vain repetition of prayer, or mariolatry can be countered effectively only when one understands the rosary’s true meaning. I have been delighted to introduce several inquiring Protestants to the rosary and the way it shows the life of Christ through the eyes of His Blessed Mother. If you are asked, be prepared to answer with joy and charity.
I strongly recommend this accessible, meaningful book and hope it will bless you.
For further reference, you will find an abundance of additional information in two books from wonderful priests, and a papal encyclical:
THE ROSARY by Romano Guardini and CHAMPIONS OF THE ROSARY by Donald Calloway.
I came to rediscover the rosary through a lifetime of writings by Blessed Pope Paul VI. Throughout his ministry, he commended the Blessed Mother and advocated a properly Christocentric devotion to the rosary. Please see his encyclical, MARIALIS CULTUS as well. Thank you, Papa Montini, for your suffering on behalf of the Church and for your intercession.

This is the first book by Johnette or Thomas Sullivan that I have read. In it they take you on a beautiful journey through the scriptures, stories of the Saints, and they added beautiful stories with examples of how the rosary has helped individuals in their lives.
I am excited to use the new techniques that they have provided for praying the rosary and I highly recommend this book.
