Summary

Renowned for the beauty and simplicity of his teachings, Ajahn Chah was Thailand's best-known meditation teacher. His charisma and wisdom influenced many American and European seekers, and helped shape the American Vipassana community.

This collection brings together for the first time Ajahn Chah's most powerful teachings, including those on meditation, liberation from suffering, calming the mind, enlightenment and the "living dhamma". Most of these talks have previously only been available in limited, private editions and the publication of Food for the Heart, therefore, represents a momentous occasion: the hugely increased accessibility of his words and wisdom.

Western teachers such as Ram Dass and Jack Kornfield have extolled Chah's teachings for years, and now listeners can experience them directly in this book.

Loved it!

His teachings were really good, made me smile, laughs and enlighten me. This book is must have. Not just for the followers of Buddhism but everyone that needs some enlightenment, a way out of suffering, who wishes better understanding how mind works. Like readers said you might need some other have said you might need some previous references, or it be a little complicated to fully understand his teachings. I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to read this book. Namaste

A useful collection of Dhamma talks by Ajahn Chah

I think this audiobook would be most useful if you were to listen to a chapter a day and let the ideas and stories influence your day to day life. There's a lot there so it would also help to remember the issues in the talks.

These are very down to earth talks too, things that everyone can learn from.

You Don't Need to be a Buddhist to Understand Him

I have been a Buddhist most of my life. I didn't meet Ajahn Chah while he was alive. I don't know Thai. I am listening his words from a translation, yet I can see how easy he communicated things, feel how uncluttered his mind was.

If you are not a Buddhist, this book will help you to understand what Buddhism is about. If you are just at the beginning your practice, his words will address many of your confusions. If you are deep into your practice, he'll clear the sky for you. It really is food for all hearts.

Graeme Malcolm's narration is very good. He is neither monotone nor overexcited. Overall I am recommending this audiobook for all listeners.

The Practice Thoroughly Discussed

You carry your breath and mind everywhere with you, wherever you go, so you can meditate anywhere. You use your breath to help transform your mind. You transform your mind to attain Nibbana, Absolute Peace. The Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path lie within you. You are the path, your mind must take you on the journey through it. It's up to you. Ajahn Chah points the way. It's a great compilation. Listen. Enjoy. Smile.

Timeless wisdom I can return to again and again.

I have listened to Food for the Heart several times and each time I learn something new. Ajahn Chah explains Buddha Dharma in a way that is both simple and profound. I appreciate his down-to-earth, "just do it" instructional style. This truly is food for the heart.

The narrator is so good! He has such a pleasant voice. Ajahn Chah has a fantastic sense of humor and the narrator does a wonderful job of conveying the humor in both inflection and tone.
