In keeping with the parable style, Patrick Lencioni begins by telling the fable of a woman who, as CEO of a struggling Silicon Valley firm, took control of a dysfunctional executive committee and helped its members succeed as a team. Story time over, Lencioni offers explicit instructions for overcoming the human behavioral tendencies that he says corrupt teams. Succinct yet sympathetic, this guide will be a boon for those struggling with the inherent difficulties of leading a group.
2012 marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of C. S. Lewis’s classic, Mere Christianity. Having sold over half a million copies in the UK alone, his overview of Christianity has been imitated many times, but never outdone. Mere Christianity brings together Lewis’s legendary broadcasts from the war years; talks in which he set out simply to ‘"explain and defend the belief that has been common to nearly all Christians at all times."
"Ten days after the attacks on the World Trade Center Towers, I stood at Ground Zero and tried to take in the aftermath of one horrific day. The thoughts of that made me cry out to God, No way! There’s just no way evil can be that deep and that dark!
But strangely, while the ashes smoldered around me, and the grief of it overwhelmed me, a profound hope rose in my heart - the local church is the hope of the world. There were many people and organizations helping out after the disaster.
"But a work of a deeper kind was happening behind the scenes in downtown Manhattan. The most important work of all was being done by pastors and church members, volunteers of churches, ordinary Christ followers. They were in the middle of all the misery, addressing the concerns of the soul. It was happening 24 hours a day. That was the untold media story. So many other organizations met the external needs of people, but it was the church that reached out to care for the inner needs of their fellow human beings. The church became the physicians for the souls of people."
That experience underscored, yet again, the convictions that have been forming in Bill Hybels for the past 30 years - that the church has an unique mission to fulfill on planet Earth, and that the future of our society depends on whether or not church leaders understand that and focus the vision of local churches accordingly.
Where Bill’s heart beats the fastest is with leaders in local churches. He believes to the core of his being that local church leaders have the potential to be the most influential force in the world. If they "get it," churches will be the redemption centers for change that Jesus imagined them being. So that’s Bill’s hope--that the spiritual gift of leadership will come alive in churches everywhere and, as a result, the church will become the force in the world against which the gates of hell cannot prevail.
A great book. Filled with stories of past events that brings to life these principles of courageous leadership. It made me laugh out loud in places and reflect deeply in others. I am going to try and embed these lessons into my own life.

Great book on leadership and the need to be courageous.
I enjoyed this book a lot and perfect for pastors of the local church or Christian business leaders. The book production is sloppy though. Several places they need to edit where the reader actually says "let's do that again" and from one chapter to another, it's WAY to quick. You'd think the production value would've been better.
The book was done well. Some words were incorrect with the text. The last chapter was skipped and not recorded.
I've added this to my list of books that every Christian leader should read. Correct that, every leader should read. Whether it's Christian Ministry, Christian business, Raven a secular endeavor, this book is for all who want to be better leaders.
I had read the book 10 years ago and was deeply moved. After recommending it to so many people, I thought it would be good to read/listen to it again. I wasn't disappointed. Bill Hybels hits it out of the park with leadership principles that pertain to everybody who leads anything.
The reader was good but there are a few quirky items. At one point he goofs up and asks to read it over - an obvious edit that was missed. There are also some missed 'pauses' where he jumps right into the next section without the natural pause that a reader would 'feel' when reading a book. None of these are too distracting.
This is a must read for anyone who leads a ministry and very applicable to business leaders.
This book is full of wisdom and useful practices. Unlike most books, the last chapters contain powerful practices that should be studied. I recommend this book as a reference tool for all leaders and laypeople.
I feel that all the principals can be applied in all ministries.
I will used them in our ministry.
Lots of mistakes but that doesn't mess of the good read! Thank you!! Great voice too!
This book is worth every minute of your time! Powerful!! I was very blessed by it!
There were a few mistakes in the audio that they forgot to take out, a few times Tom had to repeat something. Otherwise, the narrative and content were very good. I received so much from this book. I highly recommend it!
