Summary

Defeat the monsters, become the champion, save the survivors.

A sliver of humanity abandons Earth, forced into the skies because genetically enhanced monsters rule the world. Four hundred years later, the Salvation Fleet returns, desperate to unload their overcrowded decks. Darcy - the AI mastermind who controls the fleet - uses simulated competitions called the Reincarnation Trials to determine who becomes a council member and who earns the right to join the first colony.

Theo achieves Citizen status after a decade of arduous training and is thrust into the Reincarnation Trials. Ready to help humanity survive, he enters the Snagglewood competition. The theme is a western, where he defends humanity against the monsters invading its shores. While he strives for first on the leader boards, the real world calls for his help.

After being gone for so long, Earth transitions into a very dangerous place filled with narocks who call the overgrown jungles and forests home. Hidden among the terrors, pockets of humanity cower under the surface, most of them in urgent need of rescue.

Well written, a lot of conspiracy, bit convoluted.

Humans created bio weapons for war by combining animals. Of course they get out of control and start to take over. Humans built spaceships and some managed to escape. The ships were ruled by an AI and after 400 years people were questioning her motives. As the ships became over crowded most were put into a pod and lived in VR. They travel to alpha century and start terra forming process then returned to earth to see what they can salvage, The story is focused on the MC, a young man determined to do what is needed to secure humanities survival as a species, no matter the cost.

delightful!

Great story and narration!

Humanity has been driven to the stars by their own biological creations of war. Ruled by an A.I. they compete in virtual reality for privilege, power, and resources. But now they are returning to the planet that birthed them, and everything might just change...

Rebecca and Daniel did a wonderful job with the narration!

I really enjoyed this story, and can't wait to find out what happens next!

I love the book and loved the audio even more. It was a delight to listen to with Daniel and Rebecca giving a stellar performance.

Not much LitRPG, but a great story nonetheless...

Story has a lot of political intrigue and focuses how the biggest threat to humanity during a monster Apocalypse are still the humans, with a MC trying his best despite the fact. The narration was perfect, creating a lot of moments that had me at the edge of my seat. My main gripe about this novel was that there was WAY too much internal monologuing from MC. There were several times when he came off as condescending or he just spoke so much to himself that it became irritating. The overall story was good enough that it was worth continuing, but if book 2 keeps the same format, it will be my last book.

A Science Fiction Thriller I didn't know I needed

This book is equal parts "space fairing people surviving in a galaxy that is hostile to them," "people are the real monsters," and "wild west inspired game world where players compete to see who will become the leader." It's several great tastes that taste great together. An exceptional blend of politics, intrigue, world building, survival, and of course statistical goodness.

Another awesome Litrpg series

Found this one after really enjoying isekai magus. Hard to say so far being only one book in but I think this might end up being an even stronger series. Great characters, awesome action scenes, solid progression and the duet was awesome to listen to, nice change of pace within a genre that seems to mostly be solo male narrators. Great work!

A lot of promise

very conflicted about this book. I really enjoy the premise and storytelling. But the drastic changes in attitude and reactions in different settings for the main character, along with the large gaps and flaws in many of the side characters that showed at exactly the right time to move the story forward got a bit annoying.

Very entertaining!

After reading the summary, I wasn't sure what to expect. Even after a chapter or two, I was still a little uncertain. Pretty soon, though, I realized I had found a real winner. It was amazing! A fresh take on the premise of a VR world, for sure. I haven't read anything that so effectively blends the VR alternate reality experience with the "real world" of the story. The narration was also superb.
I'm looking forward to seeing where the story takes us next!
