Summary

In a land where humans and elves find it difficult to communicate, Tari - an elf - is bound to Captain Arion - a human military officer - in a ceremony designed to promote friendship between the two races. When the ceremony is over, the pair discover that the impossible has happened: They can understand each other in spite of the language barrier.

Thrown into a storm of politics, Tari and Arion are put in danger by those who want humans and elves to remain separate.

To make matters worse, Tari realizes that she has fallen in love with Arion, who has the emotional capabilities of a rock. As both societies dictate that an elf and a human can never be together, Tari must conceal her feelings. Unfortunately, the taciturn Arion is watchful and attentive to Tari's well-being, constantly pushing her to her limits with his loyalty, friendship, and dreadfully informal habit of touching her.

If Tari and Arion survive, their tumultuous relationship will either strengthen their countries' alliance or cripple the human courts of nobility. The deciding factor will be Arion and his indecipherable feelings for Tari.

Interesting, sweet fantasy romance

I love this author! I especially like how the author balances interesting, independent heroines with equally interesting heros! It is such a relief to find great books that I enjoy, that I wouldn't be embarrassed for my daughter to read as well. I am so excited to see her books finally coming in audio format. This is an excellent introduction to K M Shea's work.

terrible narrator

I struggled to finish this book. The narrator was too sing-song with her delivery and was difficult to listen to. The story line was simple and predictable.

nice

Enjoyable stoy. I loved the Elves' positions and careers. How their society worked was really interesting. The conflict/climax was a bit understated and that made it so that I was surprised when the story was finished. It seemed to me that I was waiting for the climax...and then the story was finished. It was almost like I missed it. That describes the understated comment. All in all a pleasant story.

Narration enhances story

A good story with the addition of an interesting narrator, it kept the flow of the story moving. Really wished the author would have more Lessa stories to tell involving the characters of this one

good story

I really enjoy all of this author's books. I've been looking for books that didn't have all the x-rated love scenes in them, I found them with K.M.Shea's books. I've really enjoyed all of her books. You must read all of her books.

Great story and narration!

I really loved this one! I have been in a bit of a listening slump lately - I probably started and DNF 10 audiobooks in the last two weeks. This one grabbed my right away and was an engaging story with a narrator who really brought the characters alive. I read the kindle version of this story years ago but the audible version added a lot to an already good story. I can't wait for the next book in this series to be made into an audiobook too!

Horrible narrator

Very sing song delivery. The name "Tari " was spoken so often I wanted to scream !

Please do not judge the book by the narrator!

I have read KM Shea's book before and I loved it but I was very disappointed in the narration of it. It was so slow that the book was somewhat boring to listen to. I want to be fair, I am sure that the lady that narrated the book is a good narrator but she performed this one wrong. KM Shea writes a great deal of sarcasm and humor into her books but it were entirely lost with the slow pace and sing-songy performance. I will say that it got ever so slightly better in pace nearer to the end but the humor and the real personality of the characters still remained lost in translation. Please read the book to get a true idea of what the story is like. It is much better than the audio version.
