Summary

Stand-alone long novel - contains a HEA ending.

Live fast. Die young. F--k hard.

Red Jack. Rude. Crude. Horny ginger mess. In love with...himself.

Loki. Deadbeat. Volatile. Stalker. Terminally ill. Fatally in love.

When it comes to men, Red Jack has three rules. The guy has to be hot, out of town, and not up for repeats. It’s a good way to keep the gay flings far away from the eyes of his brothers in the Coffin Nails Motorcycle Club, and he will make damn sure it stays that way. When a hookup takes an ominous turn, and the sexy stranger turns up at his house, the heat is on. Loki invades his life and just won’t leave, wreaking havoc wherever he follows Jack, but getting rid of him becomes harder with every kiss.

The world crumbles around Loki when he finds out he has cancer. As if his life wasn’t shit enough already. With only a few months left, he decides to live to the fullest and get every last wish on his bucket list fulfilled. One of those is fucking the hot bearded biker he meets the same night he got the bad news. Big, confident, and dangerous, Red Jack is all Loki ever wanted in a man. After all, he deserves one last shot at love. Who cares if Red Jack is a stubborn, closeted asshole? Loki knows what he wants, and he won’t settle for anything less. Even if it kills him.

Insanely Entertaining

Shock and awe. That’s generally two emotions experienced when listening to/reading any K.A. Merikan book. I am repeating myself, but their creative minds fascinate me to no end. 🦊 🏍

This is a love story, but it’s not your typical love story. This one involves, stalking, crude language and behavior, violence (including one mc being shot by the other), lots of fast talking, drug use, and the sense of humor only Merikan can intertwine throughout such dark details. I am not sure who’s crazier...Loki or Red Jack. We can call it a tie. Despite that, by the time I got halfway through the book, I liked the insane pair. I’m not sure Red Jack has ever had anyone handle him the way Loki does. The fact that these men are the perfect match for the other, is both surprising and a little heartwarming. Oh, it’s disturbing, but they grow on you. 🦊 🏍

This was a well written story, with great character development. I have no idea how this author team does it, but they made something beautiful out of something ugly. I cannot wait to see what’s next for these bikers and their club. 🦊 🏍

Wyatt Baker is perfect for this series. He captures the essence of these characters with ease. It’s easy to tell which character is talking the entire time. 🦊 🏍

Amazing

Another great but little twisted story by KA Merikan. Loki & Jack where great characters to het to know and before I knew it I was routing for Loki's plan to work. Wyatt Baker did a super job with bringing the characters to live I am loving the series.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

an unlikely alliance

We follow Red Jack and Loki from their initial hook up via an app and get to enjoy and be shocked, laugh, gasp, cry throughout the entire story as so much happens. It was unpredictable and it was great not having a clue what could possibly happen next as honestly it felt like anything could and probably would happen!
Wyatt Baker did a fantastic job expressing the emotions and all the different characters.

Dark and compelling

Ok, neither one of the main characters here is going to win any prizes as a "good" guy. However, when Merikan puts them together and mixes in the rest of the plot elements you can't help but be sucked into their story and unbelievably, want them to find a way to be together. You'll experience every kind of emotion in this story from total disgust with both men through pity to understanding. I had not read this before listening to the audiobook and I was blown away by Wyatt Baker's performance. He didn't pull any punches with his performance or try to make the characters "likeable". He brought them to life in all their complexity just as the author intended. A great story and a great performance. I thought this would probably be a one-off listen for me, but now that I've reached the end I want to go back a re-listen to appreciate details I know I missed both in the story and the performance.

Red! Red! Hot!

Another winner from these two awesome writers!
They never follow a predictable formula, each and every story and character is unique from any other you will have ever come across before.
I really loved Jack and Loki story the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that I personally have my favourite stories in the series not because of the quality of the writing.

Insanity at its finest

I didn't think it was possible for me to fall in love with two certifiably crazy main characters, but somehow Red Jack and Loki wormed their way into my heart. At the beginning of this audio, I was legitimately freaked out by some of the unhealthy and downright violent behaviors these two engaged in. Their "relationship" was so chaotic and physical that for a long time I couldn't see them ever moving past their pleasure-seeking ways. I can't pinpoint exactly when it happened, but somewhere between the furious outbursts and intense passion these two ended up with something deeper than a casual hookup. When I think about all the ups and downs Red Jack and Loki went through, it kinda makes sense to me that only a crazy person could put up with all that drama and insanity. These two were an absolute rollercoaster of emotions and violence and yelling and fighting and hooking up and.... I think I loved it? I feel a bit crazy myself admitting how much I came to enjoy the inexplicable connection between Red Jack and Loki. These two went through so much together, and though I still don't really understand their love, I do understand the fierce devotion and possessiveness they have for each other. K. A. Merikan are the kind of authors who aren't afraid to "go there", so be aware that this story is downright gritty at times. Honestly, I could have done with a bit less mayhem at the end, only because after these men had already gone through the wringer, it just felt cruel to throw even more onto their plates. Wyatt Baker was an incredible narrator for this story, and his expressive voices for each character added a lot to my listening experience.

intense...

another wholly unique (and a little twisted) story from Kat and Ange. I liked the concept of this one but felt it really pushed the edges of decency, violence, sanity and morals in the unique KA Merikan way.
definitely a dark and somewhat graphic read but Kat and Ange do it in a way were you might be grossed out but you still have all the feels and investment in the colourful characters you need to know what will happen next and see their HEA. so many lies and twists in this one but a great read for the dark erotic genre.

Red Hot is right

Great complex characters, interesting storyline, steamy sex scenes. The flawed main characters complement each othernicely. It was a fun story, deliciously dark as I expect from the author. Definitely recommend.

Somehow they fit

I don't think there is really a point I liked Red Jack. All through the book he is total jerk with the smallest touch of humanity somewhere in there. He sees himself as a total alpha male. Straight as can be. But the truth is there is a bit of gay in him which he has refused to face most of his life. Since he is totally in the life of mc he also is a killer. He seems to do this without any regret even though most of the kills he does in this book somehow deserve it.

Loki, I'm not sure what I feel for him. Sad since what I know of his life has not been good. He is gay with no doubt. When he thinks he is dying and homeless he attaches himself to Red Jack. He opens himself up for a sort of abuse from Red Jack but not as bad as he has had before.

These two together are almost funny at times. Loki doing everything he can to be with Red Jack and Red Jack for the most part trying to rid himself of Loki...until he doesn't. When Red Jack finds out what has happened to Loki he promises revenge. The secondary characters...women for Red, friends and members of the mc club of Red's and Loki's ex make for a interesting story.

I feel Wyatt Baker did an excellent job. His tone really fit these characters. I've listened to a lot of mc stories and without a good narrator the story misses. And while I may now have wanted these two for friends they made a good story.

I received a copy from Gay Romance Review and this is my voluntary opinion.

A dark, gritty and fast paced hurt/comfort!

This was a hot, fast paced hurt/comfort listen.

I absolutely loved Wyatt Baker's performance in this one.
Absolute perfection!

This book is angsty as hell, dark, steamy and will take you on an emotional roller-coaster.

Red Jack and Loki were perfect for eachother. The writing is dark, gritty and compelling.

If you enjoy a steamy opposites attract, hurt/comfort listen this is for you.

good listen

I enjoyed the listen. I had a little trouble feeling a connection to the charters. I loved the storyline just seemed like the charters did not fit their roles(if that makes sense). The story was very long it seemed maybe it did not need to be that long. I have really enjoyed this series. This one was a good listen It just seemed a bit off.

Ridiculously romantic in unexpected ways

I was so nervous about this book, but I am so glad I did not let the description worry me too much. What starts off with a crude and almost unlikable character meeting a slightly unhinged character develops into a beautiful and romantic love story that was absolutely worth every moment. I loved the performance and the story and will listen again.

Red hot messy love but the best

KA Merikan always manage to attract me with red, hot, sexy men and fast-paced, thrilling love stories. And it’s always a delight to read/listen MC stories from these two talented authors.

Red Jack is so in the closet that he doesn’t even know himself whether he wants to be out or not. Loki is a gay man with a scarred, tragic past. Now he just wants to live his life to the fullest without any regrets. One lonely man and one stalker-ish love-lorn man, what will their ending me?

Sexy, hot, fast-paced and delightful, it’s such an enthralling story. Red is such a grade-A a-hole and he really annoyed me to no end in the beginning. But I’m sooo grateful to see him finally learning how to be a human. Loki got his happy ending and I’m one happy listener. Wyatt Baker did a great job performing the story. I really enjoyed it.

Loki and Jack

I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review. I loved this story about Loki and Jack. It was fun to see the stalking he did to Lucy returned to him by Loki. I do find it amazing that with Loki’s past he put his sights on Jack, even if he thought he was dying. I enjoyed that while Loki was his own brand of psycho, he didn’t take anything lying down and fought back when he was treated poorly by Jack. The part I didn’t like was Loki’s ex telling him he had brain cancer and was dying but I’m glad in the end Loki found out the truth and that he wasn’t dying. I thought Wyatt did a great job narrating the story.

A Dark, Crazy Love Story (That Works!)

With this book, I'm going to stop saying I don't read MC romance. This is my sixth foray into the subgenre (trope? not sure how it's classified). Each one getting darker and more interesting. For me, the measure of a great book is my desire to start reading it again immediately after finishing. 'Red Hot' falls onto my short-list of books that I've wanted to give a repeat read right away. I've loved every KA Merikan book I've read so far. Merikan is on my must-read author list now.

Why do I love this story? It blends the perfect amount of MC bad-ass 'club justice' with tender, soft hurt/comfort. Merikan's brilliant progression of 'just sex' to the intimacy of lovemaking is sublime. A mix of humor and horror, baked goods and terror make for a thoroughly unputdownable book. By the end, the reader experiences what a romance is meant to deliver. Two people, in this case not-so-straight Red Jack (no matter what he might tell you) and bat-crap crazy Loki, are meant for each other.

A note about the violence and darkness in this book: If you can watch, say, a zombie show, a MC club show or a mafia show that plays on television, you can handle it here. Merikan is careful to make the violence (and sex, for that matter) NOT seem gratuitous.

Wyatt Baker's narration of 'Red Jack' is superbly performed. His voice acting made this story by KA Merikan come into vivid life for me.

I requested a free review copy of this audiobook (and, boy, am I glad I did). This review is my completely honest and voluntary response to it.

Highly recommended.
