Before the beginning...

Absolutely fan-smegging-tastic! I've been a Red Dwarf fan since 1988, so Lister, Rimmer, Cat, Kryten and Holly have been with me for almost my entire life. It feels genuinely special to set off on a brand-new adventure with the crew again after all these years. If you're a lifelong Dwarfer, you're in for a treat.

A great read, while not perfect as a novel (some gags go on a bit too long and some are just that bit too teenage and puerile) the character work IS perfect. Rob writes Lister and Rimmer like he's never been away and of course, Chris Barrie voices them like he's never been away.
Not quite up to the heights of the original novels, but it's a joy to be back in the world nonetheless.

With an utterly Superb performance by Chris Barrie as reader.

Don't get me wrong.

I really enjoyed this but it never quite made me laugh out loud. enjoyable start to finish and fun. Some absolutely solid gags and a decent if contrived story but never quite hitting that spot.

Needs to be listened to at at least 1.2 speed too otherwise there's no much empty air.

Chris Barrie does the voices so well I actually keep forgetting it’s only him narrating at times! His Lister is spot on.

The story was good. I listened to this in a weekend so must have enjoyed it but it did at times feel a little disjointed. As someone else said, it felt like a mix of a novel and a script which is a perfect way of explaining it the issue.

But, despite that - so so happy to have the boys back! I have missed you guys!
